Wayne State Interview.....It was a pleasant surprise. I think they are calling IMGs and they have more than 2 dates. I think they have around 6 dates with 2 shifts. That translates to 12 interview days...I think they are interviewing big time...The hope is still there....Has anyone else heard from them? Good luck all

Hi, Acne, nice to hear from you and congratulation to your very good application status. Hi, guys, I have an important question. So far, I have attended three interviews, 2 Neurology and 1 IM. After every interview, I sent thanks-letter to the program. But I only received reply from 1 program. Some people told me that if the program will rank you high, they will reply to your thanks letter warmly. In other word, no-reply means that they are not interested in you. Therefore, you should rank them high before the match. Do you think this is true. Any similar experience and any comments? This is an important issue for future rankings and match. Let us help each other for useful information.

I don't think it matters, thats very subjective. For example, a larger program probably wont send out replies to your thank yous and smaller programs might. I wouldn't worry, there is no way you can know how interested they are in you outside a personal communication with the program director about the subject. So relax.

neurology programs will not even begin to start ranking till january. most of the programs will have a faculty conference in januray end to discuss and rank candidates. a strong response in january from a program in email definitely carry weight but no response now and in january dosent mean a thing, As for ranking program, what i understand is that ranking program higher or lower will not affect your chance of getting into it if that program has ranked you higher. If a program ranks you at say 3 and you rank program at 1 you will get the program but if you rank it at 5 you will still get the program if your top four choices dont take you. and if you rank that program at say 10 you will still get that program if your top nine choices dont take you. if match software has not been able to place you in your top 9 choices and now looks at your 10th choice and say that he has assigned those seats to other people but then he will look if the program has rank you above then any of those people, if you out rank them then the last of them will be kicked out and you will be assigned the seat. and the match will then look for the choices of the person kicked out. The only reason that somebody gets unmatched after ranking say 10 programs is because none of the programs have ranked him high enough. meaning that at every choice he had there were always people who outranked him. meaning if each program had 4 seats then there were always 4 people above him in rank (done by the program) which took that seat (dosent matter if that program was there first or last choice).

sorry for not posting for long time. there were some posts in the past which disheartened me , especially the owner of this post who refused to post his own interviews after starting a thread for interviews. I had the pleasure of meeting tufts at an interview recently which made me change my mind and drop in again. Hi every body, well let me update you guys what i have been doing and then feel free to ask me questions I have 7 interviews in neurology, i have been through 5 of them. I have 4 prelim interviews. been through 2 of them. I will not be willing to disclose specific details about every interview i had ( based on the reasoning of competition ) but i would share general impressions. I am quite agreed with the fact that when a program calls you for an interview you almost has equal chance for the seat as any other candidate. except some exceptional candidates. At the day of interview you either increase or decrease your chances. It does not depend on individual events rather the whole experience. I personally thing dinner is not as big evaluation things as every body says. just be social and you should only be worried if you have some idosyncratic behaviors you dont want program to know about, well not yet anyway. I personally think, that interviewing with one of the person is more important than others, that person is the one who carries more weight and in neurology so far it has been the chairman. but whole evaluation is looked into for ranking, as the program DO have a ranking meeting. And no body will judge your clinical knowledge and skills but they would look for communication in general and goals and targets, and besides that i am really not sure. I think its quite program specific and even interviewer specific that what he wants. I mean i might be able to give ideas about each program and person (which i am sorry i will not, not yet) but its hard to generalize things for neurology as a whole. i wish all of you great success while i am trying for it too.

Hi, Kingsofke, nice to hear from you. You certainly offer us very detailed and very useful information. So far, I have 7 Neurology and 2 IM IV invitation. But I did not get any call from preliminary IM. I found our credentials are similar, but you already finished step 3, and is a new graduate. But I still feel very strange that I did not get any interview from preliminary IM. Do you have USCE? Is it very important for preliminary IM? From now, maybe we need to talk a little more about interview experience. And I hope those who haven't gotten enough interviews will get more later. The interview invitation is certainly not over. For last year, I know some applicants got Neurology interviews in January.

from what i've heard, programs should be ranked in the order of your preference .. so, if u badly want to go lets say NYU, rank them first and so on ... just my 1.9 cents good luck all

my prelim interviews are very low ranked community programs like resurrection westlake (check out my interview experience in internal medicine forum in illinois state iv experiences). Step3 does help and i do have 3 months of research experience but thats no help in prelim. i would prefer to match in a categorical neuro ( i have 4 categorical, 1 close coordiantion, and 2 advance). good luck to you all. and here are my interviews: Neuro: university of nebraska kansas university oklahoma university university of arkansas university of tennesse memphis wayne state university long island jewish hospital prelim: resurrection westlake illinois prince georges maryland harbor hospital maryland suny upstate syracue NY
