Keppra, are you talking someone who has average cred to get 10 IVs in this year? I know you have excellent cred? How many Ins have you got? It is a depressing year. It sounds like Neuro will be one of top specialties in the future. No kidding

Well looks like an alternative career path looks like a great option right about now. Also I think those of us who put their eggs in the Neuro basket might be in a tight spot. Looks like this year is a bust for me. No calls so far and not many programs left to look forward to. Maybe next year I am gonna apply to Family Medicine.....end up being a frikkin hospitalist.....arghhhhhhhhh.....the stupid UK influx has also hurt us......hospitals obviously will prefer people with a UK degree and experience than us shi*ho**s......sayonara match 2007-08......am going to start applying for an USCE and study hard and get a 99 on the Step 3.....seems to be the only way I am gonna get into a residency even next year......

Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland. I am disappointed to report that we are unable to offer you an interview for either the categorical or preliminary programs. This has been the most competitive year that I have experienced in my 20 years of reviewing applications. We have received over 3500 applications for a total of 16 positions. The Intern Selection Committee was charged with the challenging task of carefully reviewing all the applications. Though we found most applications to be worthy and well-qualified, we are unable to offer invitations for interview to everyone whom we wished we could meet. We are certain that you will be successful in reaching your career goals and obtaining a residency training position of your choice. thats more than 200 competing for one position !!!

i have 23 rejections from neurology so far .. the other 31 programs that didn't reply include the likes of Dartmouth, Duke, Sinai, Cornell, Minnesota, Wisconsin, NYU, OSU, Emory, GUH, UPenn, Baylor, Rush, UNC, and frankly, im not very hopeful of getting calls from any of these places !! the only hope i have is that MAYBE i'll hear from Wayne state, LSU Shreveport and MSU .. havent had any interviews from any of the medicine programs that i applied to .. one interview and 3 rejections from FM .. still not complaining tho 'Jo Hona Hai Wo Hona Hai, Phir Kis Baat Ka Rona Hai' good luck to all

3500! gulp. keppra, i believe you because i also have a friend who applied last year and we have the same profile and by this time he had 8 interviews in the northeast area, from good places at that. That's why I was pretty hopeful too. And yes, he also just applied to 25. Neurology seems SOOOOOOO popular this year. I seriously wish I applied to a back up. But I'm still keeping faith. This match is not over yet. And there's scramble too. They say you don't even have to be in the US to participate in the scramble. I hope so. Lost in USA--hahaha--perfect name! WaitingforIV, that's a good idea for a plan B but don't give up just yet. I mean, we've reached this far, right?

Honey if you are pinning ANY (I mean ANY) hopes on the scramble.....FHAGGEDABOUDIT.....I took part in scramble last year (long story....scores came in late....could not take part in main match.....so decided what the heck).....and lemme tell you its the biggest whitewash of the century. UNLESS you have interviewed at that place and were not ranked, or if the PD is your long lost third uncle......you can forget about even getting to programs. It an exercise in futility. Also if you are not in the US during scramble....that means you have visa issues.....that means you have NO chance of getting a scramble seat becasue the whole idea of scramble is that they can hire you ASAP......with not formalities on their part (IF you do get that far that is)...... Trust me I have been in Medical Schools for the last seven years and I know how it works. Scramble is for two reasons.....when PDs call in favors for their medical students from other PDs (AMGs I mean).....who woke up too late or are plain lazy. This is from an AMG who told me the scarmble is released to AMGs one day earlier than IMGs.....because their deans get the list a day earlier and they sit down with the AMGs who have not matched and help them get into programs......so YOU AND I have a hairy zits chance of getting into a scramble.... NOPE....if you havent received a call by end of October beginning Nov.....you can start preparing for next year.....
