a man and women both having autosomal dominant disease , have 80% penetrance .They both are heterozygous. What is the probablity that they will have a normal baby ?

40%?? :?:

25%

since it is a autosomal dominant disease there is 75% risk to the offsprings ( 50% chance..to receive 1 copy and 25 % chance to receive 2 copies)

with 80% penetrance 0.75 x 0.8 = 0.6 or 60%

The probablity that they will have phenotypically normal babies is 1-0.60 = 0.40 or 40%

 i thing which i didn't understand is from where did they get 1 .

if anyone can explain it to me...iam a dumb student .

the 1 is nothing but 100%
its like this, out of 100%(1) , chance of likely getting ds is 60%(0.6)
therefore chance of likely not getting ds is 100-60 = 40% or 0.4

thanks
