I have applied to neurology programs but can't apply to pre lim IM at the moment b/c of financial constraints...can i apply to IMprelim in scramble or somewhere in the end when I am sure that i'll get a neuro interview b/c my usmle step scores are quite low so am not sure if i'll get any IV calls from neuro or not....what do u think guys, I am really nervous right now

looks like Neuro is not your main field rather a back up, I would say prelim is hard enough to get, even harder than neurology itself; so delaying it for later or for scramble is taking bigger risk than securing neurology interview. its like you are multiplying your not getting neuro. One way to overcome would have been applying only to categorical neuro which are around 34 or so (from my research). anyway thats only my personal thought and not meant to hurt or discourage.

It's not IM transitional - that's two programs. Categorical and Preliminary are medicine.

For the first year of internal medicine before neurology, there is requirement of different rotations that you do ie this many months in medicine and this many in neurology. If you choose transitional year than you have to arrange your rotations and electives to qualify for neurology. i am not sure if you can do that easily. So i would suggest prelim. By the way for get the discussion, its near to impossible to get transitional as all AMGs go for it.
