So the match is open for 2008... Good Luck to all of you!! I hope we all match and we'll make great collegues one day in psychiatry. Imagine meeting in Psychiatry conferences here and there I, myself, am ECFMG-certified, have only 2 months of research observership(I know it sounds weird but I observed clinical research). I will apply only for Psychiatry... and maybe some IM+Pscyhi programs, not sure yet. I have a few Qs though; 1) What is waitlisting? 2) I'll have LORs in ERAS in October(still my writers will write!) so should I start applying without LORs? How late should I have my LORs scanned??

1) What is waitlisting? If someone cancels there interview.. & u r next on the waitlist… u will get that interview. 2) I'll have LORs in ERAS in October(still my writers will write!) so should I start applying without LORs? How late should I have my LORs scanned?? I would still apply…. Try to get ur LORs faster…. Cos I know scanning is going to a take a long time this year.

Univ of Washington has 3 tracks.. Seattle, Idaho and Spokane. Does anybody know what that is??? Residents in different tracks work in different hospitals and have a totally different education??

Good question…. Sorry do not know the answer. But found this on there website, hope it helps. http://depts.washington.edu/psychres/regional.sht... “The University of Washington School of Medicine is the only medical school, and we are the only Psychiatry Residency Program, for the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho), a five-state area which is largely rural and underserved. One of the goals of our residency program is to train psychiatrists to practice within this region. To this end, we offer two regional psychiatry residency programs, the Spokane and Idaho Advanced Clinician Tracks. In addition, residents from any of our programs, who would like an experience in rural psychiatry in Alaska, Montana, or Wyoming, may do elective rotations in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Bozeman, Missoula, or Casper.”

I called them again today. Correction externship does cover the below. so if u have a eight-weeks externship.... u meet there req. “eight-weeks of clinical experience comparable to a US or Canadian medical student rotation that is beyond a research or observer/volunteer level.”

Clerkship is a clinical "hands-on" experience while u are a student. Externship is clinical "hands-on" experience after u graduate. If u are given patients to take care of such as taking history, giving daily orders etc.. then u are doing externship/clerkship. If u are only watching staff taking history, giving orders etc.. then u are an observer.

Thanks for the information Dr Orange.. I dont think Univ of Washington would consider me as a candidate even if I had that 8weeks of hands-on experience.

Dear friends. MY LORs were received on 27 th and 22 nd AUGUST and NOT scanned to ERAS so far. I applied to ONE program. They downloaded everything BUT LORS were NOT avialabe to download at the time. NOW my LOR sent on 22 nd AUG is scanned and available but NOT RETRIEVED by the program. Meaning they WILL NOT retreive my LOR after they have downloaded everything else. This is risky business people. I think DONT apply until your LORS are scanned and available on ERAS. IF ANYONE DIFFERS PLEASE KINDLY LET ME KNOW at drbilalkhalid@yahoo.com

Both ur LORs will be uploaded (when ur turn comes) & will be RETRIEVED by the program (as they do it on a daily basis). “I think DONT apply until your LORS are scanned and available on ERAS”……… NOT Correct!!!!!!!!!!

This seems like a nice place where we can share our interviews invites/rejections, interviews process for the match 2008. Are you guys all applying for psych only? How can we get this topic to be pinned?
