How does the ERAS postoffice know which LOR to pull from ECFMG? Does it simply match the name of the LOR writer assigned to programs, from those available at ECFMG?

Because as far as i see, ERAS refers to all LOR's as just numbers (letter 1, letter 2...).

In eras when you apply to a program and assign LORs, you see letter numbers attributed to a particular letter writer. Each Writer/letter is assigned that number and will be retrieved according to that.

Yes ERAS assigns numbers to the letter writers, but ECFMG does NOT assign numbers to the letter writers... or at least not that we see on the OASIS site..?

So if i have "letters 2,3 and 6" assigned to a program... how will the ERAS postoffice know which three letters to retrieve from ECFMG?

I guess they'll just match the names..?

The LORS are initially physically assigned by the eras staff after reading the name of LOR writer. Once assigned it is an automated process for all programs.
