Hello everybody, First I have to thank all of you for the nice feedback and support I see on this forum. I have a techniqual question, One of my friends told me the less I write down while taking the history the best as this allows me more time to do an eye contact with the patient, I tried it it's very hard as I find out there are alot of things that I can't remember after trying not to write too much, which I think will affect my PN. How much do we have to write down not to affect the communication aspect while taking history??

Just write everything the patient tells you ,and after u write it down ( of course u write only highlights ) u look back at the patients eyes ... this is what i will do best of luck

Thanks Icarus I was really scared cuz I can't retain all the information in my head, especially the little details like timelines and numbers. Good luck to you as well..

Exactly .. who can retain all that information ... if they are going to make me fail because of me taking notes ,then , who wants to go into residencty with such people eye contact is abt looking when u r talking ... without notes u cant write ur PN anyways when and where are u having ur exam ?

as someone who has attended the test, let me say this.... ask the SP at the outset during the intro... is it OK with you if I take some notes down while talking with you...? the SP will say, of course doc, go ahead. that will make it sound as though you have asked the SP for permission. that's what i did.

i just wrote down the salient points in short phrases using the outline of PAMHUGSFOSSADONE. i haven't heard of ppl failing ICE, but FA does mention tht this could happen. but don't worry too much, during the exam, it all somehow stays in your mind. especially the CC, and the positive diagnostic history. what we tend to muddle up is whether this patient smoked marijuana, or tht one....!
