There is an advanced neuro program that i like. In the same hospital though, i have already applied to Categ IM too. Now i want to apply to this neuro program and wnat to check prelim IM box in the same hospital's Cat IM application. Should i do that or in this way i will ruin my chances of both IM and NEURO in that hospital. This is probably the only hospital where i will apply to both neuro and IM. Otherwise for all other cat neuro programs in a hospital i havent applied to cat IM only because NEURO's first year would be done in the same hospitals IM dept, that will mean the the IM pd will probably know u that u are coming in as first year neuro intern. Does any of it make sense?

The PDs know we apply for other programs for backup, and they don't seat at lunch time checking wich candidates applied for both. If you are asked (remote chance) about it during an interview, be very sincere, but be careful of how you say "neuro is what I really want" to the IM PD, so he will not get offended. But DO apply for both, you never know if both, or which one is going to call you for interview.

Hey arlete, i agree with all of what u said, but i am thinking (or maybe i am thinking too much) that when a program such as Categ neuro (which means 1 yr IM integrated) in the same hospital selects u to IV, wouldn't they inform their IM PD that they are abt to invite this person an is he okay with that? And when that IM pd sees your application, he would say hey this is the same person who also applied for CAteg IM at my program, maybe he/she isnt serious abt any of these two? Another problem is, i wrote one personal statement and just substituted neurology for IM, everything else is same....so all the same sentiments about both specialties. Isnt it like being caught two-timing

I don't think they ask each other about the candidates they want to interview or compare the PS. They are too busy to be that interested in such details. There are many applications, yours is just one more. They know we apply for different specialties, they don't get it personally. Go for it, have a good explanation planned, if and when you need it.

Sarika, If you really love Neuro, go for it.I think you should apply so that you donot have any regrets later on that you didnot do it.Do keep on trying ,you never know where God will open doors for you. What option do we have except trying hard and praying .We are not AMGS Nor Connections to let us in Good luck
