Hello everybody, as of today I have officially started my prep for step 1 . Since this forum is extremely useful, I would love to have some precious suggestions from you nice people. I graduated 10 years ago and practiced for 3 yrs in my own country, then got involved in basic research in the US. Now I want to see patients again at all costs. I have family and a competitive Job, so I wake up at 5am and study till 10 am. I will take 10 days off before the examination, tentatively 4 months from now. My plan is to take the Kaplan webprep (maybe twice), and the qbank, to study First Aid and Basic Science Review (Rypin's) and to run as many questions as possible (on this topic I need some directions on where I find the questions). I have read in the forum that other people are kind of old for this but they don't give up their dreams, AND SO DO I !! But help is needed, so please share your opinion on my plan, and if you have any suggestion on what to add to my plan, anything. One more thing, does anyone know what's the final transcript? Especially if it has to come from Italy? Thank you RoC[/img]

hi Caricchior, congrats on starting preparation for step 1! Making up your mind to do it is the first step and you have taken that! I really dont think there is any problem with age or time away from school as long as you are willing to pick up the latest materials and put in your best to learn them up. I liked Webprep and for questions, I would say NMS review, NMS Genetics(at the end of the book), of course the Kaplan qbook that comes with webprep. all the best, Meg

just like you, i have finally made up my mind to take this exam. i passed the application to ecfmg yesterday and i have 4-5 months to study. i graduated from med school 4 years ago, had one year of internship afterwards but i went here to the US in 2001 and worked in a related field. i feel that now is the time to get this done and over with! i've been procrastinating for a long time. i admire your perseverance and dedication. age shouldn't matter. my husband who graduated from med school ten years ago just got his ecfmg certificate in january. he wasn't able to join the match for this year but definitely, he will try for the next year. God willing, i too will have this much- coveted ecfmg certificate and will be on the road to becoming a physician here in the US. good luck to you and maybe we can study and exchange knowledge in the future.
