in a case of diabetic pt with malignant otitis externa.What is the causative organism and complications ?

the organism is Pseudomonas aeruginosa
complication is nerve damage ( mostly cranial nerve)

malignant otitis externa ,common in elderly,diabetics ,

:arrow: caused by pesudomonas .
:arrow: it can cause temporal bone erosion and CN damage .

how do you treat it?

can you throw some light on the treatment 8)

1.anti pseudomonas like carbenicillin or fluroquinolones ( systemic/ oral)
2. if there is any abscess (sub periosteal abscess ) or any necrotic tissue it mus be removed
3. diabetes mus be controlled
