There was a time when getting a 99 really meant you were out of this world genius but now we are flooded with it. At first, we thought maybe people are misreporting 99 but now from personal experience i can honestly say people are really getting too many 99s.
Within the past 6 months 5 of my close friends took step 2 and 4 of them scored 99. their step 1 score was 87, 89, 90, 90, 99.
With all this growth of 99, i wondered if 99 is loosing its value in the eyes of programs. I got a chance to speak with a PC last week. She said we put score requirements to filter out excessive applications, ofcourse the higher score one got it seemed more valuable. But at a certain number say anything above 90 or 95, score looses its meaning, then other factors come into play, e.g likeability factor, team player, mature, easy to talk to, can you fit into our program, are you the person our residents and attendings want to spend the rest of their 3 years (Think about that one, people dont even stay married for longer than that). So next time you go to an interview, remember, your scores have done their part, now you and the person sitting next to you (who might have a 88) are all EQUAL....Suddenly 99 doesnt seem all that attractive anymore!

And this is why I stress language and behavior. You really have to shine in your interview.

Good luck all
