took my exam today can't believe its over!! i had to post my experience on this forum..coz its been so very helpful in every way. ..and also before the post exam blues set in!...so to cut thru the chase.. the exam is very very doable and very fair ..abt 35 questions in each block were easily answereable....they ask very basic stuff ...the questions were like the cd they sent. similar difficulty level.in fact i got 3 similar questions from the cd...i think everything was tested ...i found path pharm and micro predominant ...actually i was surprised at the amount of micro asked every 4th question was frm micro which was good coz i'd done it well smiling face...biochem which was my biggest fear was very reasonable and very few questions asked..very direct...a lot of biochem was from uworld...i mean the simpler u world questions....in pharm contrary to the popular notion i was asked very little cns and ans but lots of anti-microbials i think the moa of practically every anti-microbial was asked....nothing to worry abt all very well covered in fa.. .i had atleast 3 bs questions per block. very few staistic questions abt 4 ..1 pharma iv dose calculation..the on thing i found most difficult was interpreting some of the neuro cts i think i had abt 5 in every possible plane ...i had'nt revised them well i guess thats why ...and genetics was another grey area for me but there was basic stuff there...anat abt 10 simple questions again 2 were from u world...i think in each block there were only 2-3 out of space questions ....well thats about it i guess ....i can't really say how i've done coz i had hardly slept for 5 hrs the night before out of anxiety and fear that the exam will be in greek..which was the most silly thing to do..so whatever happens get enough sleep...in the last 3-4 days read only fa believe me it covers 80% of whatever is asked...i could complete each block in 40 min..took a break after each block..still had 10 min break time left in the end...due to the lack of sleep i've answered everything in a daze..which is completely avoidable....will post my prep once i get the score...that also means interpret my exam exp at yur own risk i might just be eating my words! any questions..will try my best to help..

Congratulation!!!!
I m sure you will have great score.
I m new in this forum trying to be motivated by those who have done it.
About to take exam in September 28. So nervous and anxious, couldn't ever think what would i be like on the day before exam.
Haven't done any NBME. UW average 76%. Now reviewing my weak areas from Kaplan Notes.
Can you plz give me any suggestion what to do in this 1 month and how to reduce my anxiety.rolling eyes

for serendipity....i did the ct /mri from this radio atlas i found in the library i used to study in...however like i saidabt 5 cts were neuro ones...and those planes are all covered in hy neuroanat in simple line diagram...i got an angiogram whose line diagram was there in hy neuroanat......for eg i was asked to identify the structure which causes a particular movemen disorder on a ct..there was one abdo ct ...it was covered in kaplan anat lectures...one 2 x-ray chest

for nyimalay..your u world score is pretty good..had i known a few days earlier i would have been asking advice from u smiling face . i would suggest u take an nbme form if u can i would reccomend nbme 3 in fact i got 2 -3 questions from nbme 3...it'll help reduce yuor stress ... plus give u a fair idea on what your weak areas are...u can work on them using u world if u still have yur subscription on.....if u are using fa add things which u forget there....if u intend to use fa in the last week and have not yet read it...then read it once now...review pharma micro and bs ethics and doc patient relationships in the last week again a fresh knowledge abt these is very helpful.... .last 3 days read only notes u've made or fa and review radio. reduce your study time to 5-6 hours and get as much rest as possible....believe me almost everything asked will be found in fa...buts its weird u only appreciate this after doing the kaplan notes well! and most imp of all on the last day just relax and do anything to sleep well.. go for a movie or something... coz otherwise like me u'll be kicking yourself once u find out how doable the exam was ...hope that helps

To at peace

Thank you soooooo much.
I will take your advice seriously. I have done FA twice. But I have to tell you that my score for BS is just above 50% in UW. I m so worried about it and now reading the notes again. I will take NBME in a few days.
thanks a lot

hey thank u all so much i can only hope for the best...hey watching the kaplan dvd for bs might help..the last lecture is esp very imp as it deals with advanced directives and i had 3-4 questions on that...if u don't have the dvd not to worry its all well covered in brs bs..i'm sure u'll do well smiling face

well everything asked in micro is well covered in kaplan notes ..and the remaining small portion is taken care in u world..also fa provides an excellent review for micro towards the end when u can't read the notes...well cliched as it sounds kaplan covers everything u need in anat pharma micro biochem physio...for path and bs i don't know coz i'd used brs...i found robbins review to be very close to exam path..for anat whatever the kaplan lectures stress on is imp..coz i had a few questions frm that..

ah one more thing ...all the genes tested in u world are imp i got 3-4 questions which asked to id the gene defect in that particular disorder..and all of those were covered in u world.. i mention this coz i'd often heard ppl say that lots of weird genes were asked..and i made extra effort to quickly go thru hy cell and mol bio...which was an overkill.. esp one of the last few chapters dealing with hox genes ...because i was sure the exam would have weird genes...trust me all that was asked was well covered in the genetics section of biochem and u world ...some other topics i recall now are..
in micro
most common pt presentation was pt with hiv..do it very well including the mech of infection ,cells it multipies in etc
cryptococcus
in anat
radial nerve
common peroneal nerve
lymphatic drainage of large bowel
ts of spinal cord ..u should be able to label tracts
in bs
developmental milestone in children
advanced directives
screening test calculations
prevelance
in biochem
oxygen dissociation curve
glycogen storage disorders
at least the enzymes of gluconeogenesis glycolysis glycogenolysis
lead poisoning
patho
hocm
testicular ca
pharma
drugs acting on pupillary diameter
anti microbials
..thats all i seem to recal for now..

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
Just one more question? Regarding the weird genes, do you mean the gene defect/ abnormal genes in leukaemia, lymphoma etc?? As my UW has expired, i have to look up in my notes again.
thanks,

  #18

Thanks .. at peace , re; micro .. you means enough with kap , uw, fa , right? .

re; HY mole, do you need to go whole book, mine is v. old edition , bought from old student . Is kaplan molecu enough or you still need to go to latest HY molecu whole book .

Thanks for detail remember facts re exm .

Thank you .

nyimalay.. the genes i meant were brca1 , k-ras , genetic defect of familial non polyposis coli.stuff like that u'll easily find almost all of it in kaplan genetics section..and the leukemia lymphoma ones as well...see nothing wierd!

ShweHope99.9998.. yup i felt micro was enough with uw fa and kaplan..
all of the cell and mol bio in my exam was answerable frm kaplan and u world....i really don't think hy cell and mol bio was needed...i really cannot comment in the diff between two editions coz i just quickly flipped thru whatever edition of hy was there in the library..hope that helps smiling face

  #21

Thanks at peace , u clear my mind, so will not read HY molecu at all then .
BUT...
Cause hox gene I did not know or not recall , is that in kap or only in HY ??.

re micro fa, kap, uw , so no MMRS??

Thanks , u r very helpful.

  #22

LOOKS like u did good! BEST OF LUCk! nod

  #23

hey thanks for the list of questions.

  #24

u'll find a list of hox genes in one of the last chapters in hy ...its not there in kaplan or uw...and i did'nt use mmrs so can't really comment..but if u find micro difficult perhaps mmrs might make it more bearable smiling face

Thanks at peace .
