Hello bbb and forum gurus,
I was selecting my programs on ERAS to apply and I have 4 Q's if you can help me out with.....

1. If I have chosen 9 IM prog and then I choose an IM prog which has both choices prelim and categorical listed under only one ACGME ID and I check both boxes. So how is it charged?
$60 for 10 applications OR 11 applications at a charge of $60+$8 = $68

2. If I have applied to both Prelim and categorical in a prog and I get an inv call, does the prog specify for which prelim or C are they calling you for interview ?

3. This may sound stupid, but gotta ask : If on a prog web site they say they need 3 lor's and eras allows 4 lors to be attached to a prog then should I attach all 4 Lor's or 3? Coz my 4th lor as it appears in order on eras is from USCE and I dont want the prog to discard that one.

4. If I am applying to the same prog for IM and FM both, what are the red flags I should be aware about. Will they know or ask me that I did anything of the sort? Is there a chance that there might be one common person present for both interviews.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanx

2. they will let you know if you are being interviewed for prelim or cat. if not, ask the residency coordinator when you are setting up date for the interview.

4. some interviewers will ask what other programs you applied to. jjust out of curiosity. but in this particular instance, because you dont know if he is on both im and fm interview panels at that centre, you had best be honest. generally, it is always best to be honest.

1. No clue - that happens on YOUR side of ERAS, not mine.

2. Usually. My program assumes categorical unless something in the PS indicates preliminary

3. Assign 4 - why not. A program can't block it (to my knowledge)

4. Make certain that you assign the correct personal statement to your application. It's a killer for an application to have an ER personal statement when I am reviewing for an IM program.

Thanks BBB, tolito and sarika.

Okay, Let me rephrase one of my questions.

When comes the time for Rank order List (ROL), If i have selected xyz program with cat and prelim both selected and I was offered IV and if all went well. Do I get an option to pick Cat only. In short is there an option to select in ROL Cat separate from prelim positions.

Yes, when you rank your programs you will have option to chose between cat and prelim, even if both had same eras id when applying. Every seciality has different nrmp code for cat, prelim, transtional etc. when ranking.
