Hi,

For all IMGs thinking about Radiology, read this :

Donna Magid, MD, MEd, at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, says “Only the academically extremely strong should even think about this [Radiology]. USMLE scores must soar well above 230s/mid 90s, transcripts groan under the weight of A’s, Honors and applause; accepted publications bend your mailbox from sheer volume; whole communities praise you as their savior; and your letters must make you appear likely to qualify for instant sainthood. On top of that, you must present a sparkling and error-free ERAS, a compelling Pulitzer-level Personal Statement, and project the vivid and charismatic presence of a talk-show host. A successful, articulate one.”

Good luck to you all.

That's the most retarded statement I've ever seen. Dr Magid was obviously referring to AMG's, not IMGs when she made these statements; and then again she was more than likely referring to people applying to her own program.

Regular applicants to radiology (even AMGs) don't all have scores above 230, don't all have A's, honors, and accepted publications.

IMGs obviously need better scores but they're not getting into Johns Hopkins anyway not unless they are sleeping with the Program director.

man, thats bold!!!!!

But I agree that any IMG should be sane enough not to apply to JOhn hopkins, if he wants radiology!

why wld anyone apply to a place where they ask for all dat? any candidate who is all dat wouldnt be in medicine! If they can fool people into believing they are all dat, wldnt they be in politics?

Even if you had all that, you wouldn't get into hopkins. Most img's have a shot at lower tier programs provided that they are 1) high nineties 2) green card, citizen 3) very agressive about it. It becomes harder if you don't have a visa, but research could open doors.

bottom line is to be aggressive. Like water, you will eventually find a path.

Whoever makes grandiose comments like that should take a step back and look at their own credentials. Ivoriy towers can make the best intentioned people look like complete snobs.
