Can anybody clearly verify for me the differences between prelimeniary and categorical positions....i appreciate a quick reply

Preliminary means you apply for IM just for 1 year because you'll go to other specialty which has 1 year of IM in its requirements! Categorical means you apply just for IM for 3 years.
