hi all,
a typical late-gate-crasher question....!
i,m an IMG who has cleared step 1 and CK, i have given my step 2 CS on the 22nd August. My Med ed credentials verification has reached the ECFMG 2 weeks ago.
i have a residency in Pediatrics from my country, India. so tht's the specialty i would most likely match to, and also want to match to.
As i understand it, one can apply for step 3 only after ECFMG certification. But by the time i get that after my step 2 CS, in the event i pass of course, (touchwood...!!), the deadline of Sep 4 for writing step 3 by the end of THIS YEAR would have long passed. Ideally i would like to be on a H1B visa, for obvious reasons.
so, can someone tell me, if i apply for it, say in late October at the earliest,
1.can i get a date in early January...? and if i do,
2.when can i get my scores...?
3.will i be in time for matching with a H1B if i do manage to do all the above..?
sorry for the long post, i just wanted to give the people reading this a clear picture of my situation.

Hi jaydoc , Im almost in the same boat as you. I have taken csa on 25th july and as written in ecfmg webnsites those wsho took exam after 14th july will get their results in mid oct and by thaat time I will get past the deadline of sept 4th. i dont know swhat to do myself.
I too want to apply for H1B and this deadline thing worries me to death.
if you get any input on this plz do share with me about your plans.

well one thing that Im suispecting is that since they have written 2007 application deadline is sept 4th so it could be possible that after that our application will be of 2008 cycle. like for step 1 and 2 also they have some deadline of aug 15th ( not sure of the date) and after that we have to submit the appli of next year but we still get slot of the present year.
like for step 2 if someomne wants to take exam in 2007 oct and is filling form in late aug the appli available will be 2008 application.
I hope you getting what I mean.
I hope its the same for step 3 also coz no where its written that we cant take exam in 2007.
Im just hoping for the best. there might be many in our boat.

you are right nikki. i have posted this on the usmleforum in step 3 section.
we can still get slots like nov-dec-jan and take the exams in nov.... just like for step 1 and CK.
go to the forum and see my similar post there.
happy, and relieved.
desperate for a 99 there. i missed it in CK. 98, there, and 99 in step 1.
so step 3, here i come... rather, here WE come...!!

Im going to starat preparing for step3, but rigjht now too busy with applcation work.
what is your approach jaydoc for step3? can I be in touch with you?

Sorry for being confused still. So I need to wait to get my CS result at first and then register for step 3. Or I can register before 4th September but take the exam after 10th Octobor when my CS result is available. If we need to be ECFMG certified so how long after passing score in CS we get our certificaion?
I took CS exam on 23th July.

nadia, you need your ECFMG certificate in hand before you can apply.
i don't know how long it will take for that to come after your step 2 CS results. i'm not sure abt that.

me too busy with the app work, and not yet started serious prep. will start by sep 4th or 5th....! planning to do UW, FA and swanson.
