glucose,as mentioned in lippincott:after a meal containing carbohydrate the liver becomes a net consumer of glucose, retaining roughly 60 of every 100g of glucose presented by the portal system. and you talked about amino acid so: the excess amino acid: they will be either relesased into the blood for other tissues to synthesize protiens OR they may be deaminated to give rise to the carbon skeletons to enter TCA cycle. AS for fasting fatty acids are the main source for energy. It's a very important question to be asked

I thought glucose burned for immediate fuel use, rest stored as glycogen? AA's for gluconeogenesis, but past fed state, right?

AA's for gluconeogenesis, but past fed state, right? [/quote] this is what happens in other tissues in fasting state...gluconeogenesis takes over...

in a well fed state every tissue uses glucose. dude no point to break down proteins and make yourself skinny as hell after you eat a meal.
