I gave my exam in chicago , actually its in rosemont,IL . When i walked in the center at 8 AM , all shaking ,there were 24 of us , waiting in a room . We waited till 8 15 and they closed the door , They briefed us about the way things works , offered us drink ,stethescope ,lab coats and then lined us up infront of a door . we waited for few minitues until they announced 'examinee enter' and we started with the exam . Now let me tell u briefly, how i studied .. i read all the reviews of students who passed and realized , only effective way to pass is to PRACTICE . so from day 1 , i find myself partners and started practicing . I would study with multiple partners male ,female and practice with them . Some would give exam sooner so i find new partners , so i had the fortune to be exposed to different types of people . i practiced for 3 weeks , i am neither smart nor lucky ,i failed couple of times in step ii, i need to work hard to get things done ., thus i started earlier than the usuals. I used the FA & UW. On my first case , i was shaking like a leaf .. i barely understood what the lady(patient) told me , i barely remebered the things i was suppose to ask , i missed few questions like family history ,allergy history , drug history . I didnt understand what her problems were and so the differentials diagnosis was a pain . I had to write something so i wrote. On my first 2 cases , i was like that .After the 2nd case , i got a grip of my nerves and tried to act like a doctor. I asked all the PAMHUGSFOSS and did relevant exams first ,then rest of the systems .But in all my cases i covered all systems in my PE . i stick to the complaints . i don't think i got most of the differentials right . I prepared myself in advance that getting them right in my first visit was not my goal as a physician , my goal is to cover everything. and i did . My english is so so , I studied with alot of people , some barely speak english, some spoke in a way i didnt understand at all , somewhere exceptional ... and all of us passed . So anyone who thinks , u have to converse well to pass , needs to realize there r Dr's from all over the world comes for this exam . One thing that worked for me is practice ,i did exactly as i would in the real exam . When i didnt have any one to practice with , i did it with my folks at home and So by the grace of God i passed at one go (whew, whot a huge relief that is , ask 'em who failed multiple times) ! and oh , do watch the VDO they sent you from ECFMG for the exam . Everything in the exam is as same as that VDO . My exam experience is not for the geeks & nerds and the 99ers , its for those who failed , we can do it 2 *wink*. adieu
