hi all, Indian IMG, finished CK and 1. at last i finished the final step to certification, at least i hope i did. i took the step 2 CS in houston. it was a really nice place to take the test. as usual they showed us the videos, and let us play with the equipments for 10 mins. the proctors were really nice, and only took offence if someone stayed in the rooms long after the warnings. there were plenty of IMGs in my session. mostly from my country, and from Latin American countries. the SPs were sort of OK. sometimes they acted rough in the beginning, but as you go on 'being nice' to them they sort of become their usual selves. we had plenty of time to do the PNs. by we, i mean most of us who were looking around here and there, by the time we had been warned that 2 mins remained forthe PNs...!! always follow the routine protocols. find a study partner. unless you are a really CONSCIENTIOUS, HARD_WORKING GENIUS, its really stupid, excuse me, to try and go it all alone, especially for IMGs from the subcontinent, and maybe Asia as a whole. The western culture is so different from ours, that even shaking hands with the SP is something we have got to PRACTICE...! make it a habit to enter the room, itroduce yourselves, and tell the patient, let me make you more comfy by covering your legs with this drape. you will be credited for it early. and when it becomes a custom its going to be easy to remember it. suffice it to say that most cases are quite common ones. i did FA and a little UW. the last 4 days when i found a study partner in my hotel, we did ONLY FA. guys and gals, its adequate enough. don't go looking for toomany resources. Accent wasn't a problem for me, but surely that cannot be generalized for all. so its upto you to find if you will have problems and go on to try and overcome it. time flies when you are in the rooms, so before you know it and have just covered PAM H... the nasal bleating comes on, there are 5 mins remaining for the encounter. so try practicing the cases with the partner in 10 - 12 mins, if you can. and remember there is no way you are going to do the entire PAMHUGSFOSSADONE, for EVERY case. remember that examination is also vitally important. maintain eye contact with the patient as much as you can. they certainly try to. i don't know if i will pass. bt that lament will come in another post...!! cheers.

thanks all.... one thing i forgot to talk abt... i stayed at days inn. it was a nice hotel, cheaper when compared to others in the same area. a nice 5 min drve from the airport and also from the CS centre. they pick you up from the airport, drop you there too, and also from and to the centre. there are many restaurants nearby at walking distance, like Wendy's, where i had most of my lunches and dinners, McDonald's, and jack in the box. for the more adventurous and more moneyed, there's the greenspoint mall just across the road. a quiet place to read, and there will be someone to practice with for sure,....

mnemonics for DDs.... it depends on your clinical experience. if you have a fair amount of it as most IMGs usually do, you can easily formulate the DDs. remember the cases are not at all difficult. they will always be cases you encounter in your daily practice. so you can skip such mnemonics, especially those tht are not the usual easily REMEMBERED ones....!
