Oh thats Simple Cos i do that a lot (procastinate) so as a remedy i simply go thru Questions which r insanely insane and realize tht i know nothing of tht topic and then go thru it again. Procastination is the worst thing that happens very frequently and to all of us.

The Best Way is to get urself a Study Partner or Invest in the UW Qbank its easier that cos the questions keep u on track and for reality chks (my personal Favorite ) i go thru exm experiences where the posters have failed, i dont look at the number of ppl scoring 240+ i just look at ppl scoring below that and see how they failed that actually helps me by visualizing that i cud be there posting such an experience. Tht particular thought is so horrifying tht i focus on books.

One of the main reasons for success in life is the ability to maintain a DAILY INTEREST in one's work, to have a CHRONIC ENTHUSIASM, to regard EACH DAY as IMPORTANT.

I always remember this to keep me more motivated. Good luck!

i am really the same way. so i have decided to "live" at starbucks and then barnes and nobles and then where ever else i can go. in public, i get a bit embarassed when i am talking too long on the cell. and once i get tired. i move on to another place, away from my apt.

and then i try and do at least 10-15 questions at night.

but truthfully i can't get anything done when i am home in front of the tv. i have even did an hour of reading at the mall food court before alot of people were there. and at least that was one more hour reading than sleeping at home!

Get a study partner and make an insane study plan that is almost impossible to follow, that's what i did and i was under alot of stress for that period, not good for your health on the long run but works wonders.

adverse health effect was minor insomnia and weight loss (5 kg) even when i was under a bulk diet and worked out consistently wherei should've gained weight

jok, u're lucky!! i wish i cud lose 5k!

nnl, what a charming idea...

shumaila,

my share on procrastination wud b to just get ureself to be embarassed...i think what nnl said was great...i also know what gets me to keep hittin the books is when i find out about other classmates in the same batch who are completely done w/ all the steps...sad

and as far as that goes, ppl around me keep askin "so when u gona take that exam?" after awhile u start to get very embarrassed...in fact it's now really hard for my husband & I to go for our weekly friday prayers at our local mosque...right after prayers we duck n' run out so we don't have to meet up w/ anyone's questions....confused

hey damsel, i head for starbucks as well n' barnes n' noble as well, there's somethin bout books n' coffee....just a great combo

  #11

I tried going to starbucks, borders and barnes n noble but nothing works I cant study there because of music

  #12

yeah... it gets distracting to hear all the music... but you know what? you get into the groove of studying and then you don't hear it... plus i love to people-watch... and the random people who go to the bookstore are so entertaining! i mean... it is shocking to see what people are readying... and to listen to random conversations...

but i have to tell you... there are other people who are studying medicine, in ever place i go to... and even though i don't talk to them (i am that "snob" in the cafe =) it gets you motivated.... you see those people reviewing and doing questions, then you feel it too... even if they aren't doing medicine but the nursing or GRE or LSAT or whatever, you start feeling the pressure...

if worse comes to worse... i tell myself, i paid $5+++ for this iced raspberry cappaccino so i better at least read and finish this here otherwise that cash went to waste! =)

and how i could lose the weight studying... i should be anorexic if that's the case! UGH! =)

  #13

that's so funny damsel!! in my previous post i was gona say i love ppl watchin at starbucks n' bnn....i didn't mention it coz i thot the only ppl who'd understand ppl watchin are new yorkers *L* i was thinkin to myself, ppl r gona think im a moron if i write this....

btw, shumaila, goin to places like starbucks n' bnn aren't for everyone...most like to study quiet environment like a library...i grew up w/ a lot of noise, big family so i'm used to it...infact i crave the noise

  #14

it's funny, everytime I go to Barnes at 4pm.. I let mykids do their homework, get them hot cococa, keep them busy while I read my step 1 FA.Then a guy or a gal doing q's from MLE question book & looks at me & my book everytime I get up .I am sure he's so motivated just by looking at me.. still reviewing no matter what, w/ bunch of kids w/ me.
Maybe he's thinking.. she is crazy...

  #15

BTW she is a young gal...

  #16

i like nnl's approach on doing questions and also what damselmd said...basically i switch between the two depending on what i feel like...but now i am doing questions most of the time and i go back to theory when needed.doing questions and then reading the explanations completely is a easier and effective way.
shumaila, no offence but i think you need to get a little more motivated.i am saying that because i feel i am short on it at times and thats when i dont read that much...trying watching a inspirational movie(remembering the titans/pursuit of happyness) or reading a good book.it helps(me atleast).
just make it a discipline like they have in the army...get up at one time and get ready in the same time everyday and then sit down to study...go to your local library inbetween too to add some variety to your study(as they say-"variety is the spice of life")
if you are not so motivated then you will find many reasons to not study but if you are motivated then you will even study at the cafe blaring with loud music. try some physical exercise too.it makes you more disciplined.so good luck with your preparation.

give yourself a day or two and make a fresh plan and then try to stick to it as much as you can.even if you did 80% of what you thought it will be a sucessful day for you and then reward yourself with a movie or a walk or a drive or whatever you like.that will be one good productive day.try and have as many of those days as you can and you will be well placed.this exam asks for a lot more than we think when we decide to take the usmle's.so good luck with everything.

  #18

HAHAHA... yes... propanolol... you can take the NewYorker out of me... it is impossible! i love people-watching... it is such an awesome distraction... and i admit the noise factor is important to me too... i need background sound that isn't the tv.... if you can discover a quiet place or library... that's great too...

and seriously... take a "mental break" every once in a while... you need it... even for a little bit everyday... it keeps your sanity...

good luck everyone!

shumalia..I should be asking for an advice from you or you should be giving an advice on how to get more motivated. You know why??? You already passed step 2 ,Right? So.. if you really want match 08.. get going.Poor me.. I'm still struggling for step 1 but heck no.. I am more of a positive person.
