Hi,
can anyone tell me the basics on the 3 USMLE tests; how often during a year they are held, if you can buy the books for prepping all over the world or only in US, if prepping is something u can do while studying med school or u need to put all ur time in to it?
I am studying in Europe and am unsure of the supply of test materials, books and more here.

dont consider failing plz becuz many residency programs will only accept passing in 1st attempt

though i am not sure how many times its allowed to take the test

but remeber f u fail the test U CAN NOT RETAKE IT

so having a low score or barely passing will stick on ur record

she meant if you PASS the test with a low score, you're stuck with it. so, aim high.

Hedieh, you don't have to be that apologetic grin. I think a word or two in your native language do not break the forum rules .

Hi,
I am reading all the posted replies to my question and funny enough most of them r not replies or have anything to do with my question...I guess this site is a meeting place for people with same interests?...
For those of u who did reply my question:

Yoga: thank u for the link. I study in Scandinavia. I guess what u tried to tell me is that if u do not pass the test, u can retake it..? I am not planning on not passing, but hard to say when u haven't started reading yet...

Paheli: thank u.

Hedieh: thank u for the link. If u haven't noticed...I think praying4a99 is up for a chat or something...smiling face To answer ur mail...I am not interested in taking the test just to get in the US, I have lived in the US. Since I am a med student, the test is obligatory for me, if I wish to work in the US...that or become a housewife/mom..?? (maybe :confusedsmiling face

(well it depends on many things, probably the most important is how determind you are and how hard your school is, i mean how busy it keeps during the semester)
I am studying in Europe (good for you, atleast educationaly) and am unsure of the supply of test materials, books and more here ( oh, dont worry about that, hopefuly youll find all the materials that you need).

(you can fail as much as you want but its going to cost you big bucks and more importantly youll be wasting alot of time, so aim high from the beginning so you surely end up passing -God willing-)

Hi you guys,
I am going to be coming to the U.S. in about a year and I am graduating soon from Iran’s Medical University.
I wanted to know what is the best way for me to take the USMLE’S. I have heard that I can I take step 1 in Iran and step 2 in Dubai and for the last step I would have to actually be in the U.S. can anybody help me and let me know which way is the best way?

Thank you all.
p.s. I am planning to continue with my specialty in the U.S.

Salam Persian Girl:

The best way is to take the steps as soon as you can ( first be sure that you are really well prepared)

Go to:

www.usmle.org

To know more about it. Don't waste your time, the process is so time-consuming.

Goodluck!

hi persian girl
as i know iran does not take any of the steps, and you have to go to one of the contries that usmle is taken..and as hedieh said it is better to take the exam as soon as you can ,because many of the programs here in us want fresh graduates not old ones...
negar
as the others said check usmle webside, you can take usmle when you are student (one of my classmates did that)but i don,t know how can you get doccuments like dean's letter and ...from iran, you have to ask it first from your university...but you can take kapplan lecture notes from teimourzadeh and read them for now,it makes you familiar with modes of qs ..
usmles marerials for step 1 & 2 are the same as our exams (preinterni and oloompaye)..but they are asked qs in case study, they are not dirrect qs..like this:the researcher do this and thad and find these ,now what are thosegrin?
there are many iranian in this forum that can help you..ask them whatever you wantnod

Hey Shohreh thank you so much for your help.
So I would have to first take USMLE step 1 & 2 (I know I can take it in Dubai) and then for the 3rd one I would have to actually be in the U.S. and then what do you think about me starting my specialty? What specialty would be better to choose if I would be living in the U.S.?
Thank you so much for your help.
