All are characteristics of skeletal muscle type I, except:

1-Number of mitochondria= many
2-Glycogen content=Low
3-Speed of contraction= Slow
4-Glycolytic enzymes = High

  #2

if I is intermediar fiber, answer is 3 (it has fast contraction)

  #3

Nope

  #4

is it 2 ?

  #5

nope

  #6

i thought its red muscle.. :roll:

  #7

yes asmi is red muscle

  #8

i think its 1

  #9

nope

  #10

:cry: :cry: is it 4

iam very poor on this sad

  #11

it is simple asmi..type 1 or red fibers...are postural muscles...implies they use less fuel(glucose) in effective way...becos they have to work looong like us...so they do aerobic metabolism ..so more myoglobin...to take up more oxygen..more mitochondria for TCA cycle..as i told less fuel..less glycogen content...they are slow...

incontrast fast fibers type2..depend on anaerobic glycolysis...as with exercise and fast actions..so they have more glycolytic enzymes..
cool isn't it? 8)

thanks usmleasr...

thanks colombia for a good Q

  #15

Muscle type I :

slow-twitch
aerobic metabolism
+++ myoglobin
+++ mitochondrion
+++ large blood supply
"dark" meat

Muscle type II :

fast-twitch
anaerobic metabolism
+++ glycogen
+++ glycolytic enzymes
intense, but sporadic contraction
"white" meat

Therefore, the answer is 4, because glycolytic enzymes are high in type II, not in type I

sorry guys, I didn't see that the question was already answered. :wink:
