I took my CS on August 13 in Houston.
First patient was a disaster, and patient was aware of me being nervous, and she could not stop it.
First 4 patients I could not manage my time to finish, exam, so I could not give counselling for two of them.
Third patient I said I will give counselling rideway, and did very nice counselling but I could not finish the exam, which I was about to start to examine abdomen, and was the relevant one, (wasted my time with lungs and heart, which i should have started with abdomen). I was very much embrassed to patient and try to make myself feel better to help him to get up, I got warning not to get out on time.
After 4th patient I came out at least one minute before time, and I got suspicious about missing a lot, which I really did.
For hearing loss patient I did everything else but simple hearing test for example. Patient was almost I would say angry to me, since I forgat only that.
I forgat to write very significant CVA tenderness BL in PN in another patient, while I went through history twice not to forgat anything, since I had good time to finish PN.
I was about to forget to wash hand in first patient, and hold the ophtalmoscope, and said sorry and washed hands. After that never forgat to wash hands, and while I was washing asked if they have any other concern. I draped couple of big patients when I got in the room, others right before the PE.
I told patients at the end when I could not finish the exam, "this page is for me let me answer that I will be right back, I am very sorry about that". They seemed very thankful for this explanation.
All SPs are really good actors. I really believed one of them is really sick, so I act like a doctor as I am. One of them was very much in the conversation and when I asked how does it affect her daily activities, she said she is good, it does not effect her drama classes, but stopped in the middle of sentence, I thought it was real life answer.
I don't know what can I say more. Questions are wellcome.
I am old a foreign graduate was doing research last 5,5 years, with a little boy at home, trying to be wife at the same time.
I was bold to decided to take this exam first as a starting exam. I did not even start to step 1 or 2 CK yet.
I did not only need to remember clinical knowledge, also had to remember how to study that much. Terms in medicine is not in daily English and I did not spent enough time. My groos study period is 40 days. I would say last 10 days, but maximum real days are 3. I practice about half cases in FA. Tried to watch UW videos, and whatever I found video wise online.
I can see now best thing to study with a doctor partner, makes it easy for both of you, and shortens the time that you are getting ready.
Clasically I would say like the others, practice!
Take whatever time you I mean yourself need, not anybody elses time.
Forum people give very useful ideas to study. I was not ready enough, since I did not practice all the cases even in FA, and wasted my time to write while I am studying
Please tell me your opinion
So, I don't know I am going to pass or not, but I sounds good to know other people can do these kind of mistakes too, and result is good.
