hi all i've been studying for step1 for 4 months and i'll give the exam in 3 weeks i've done about 45% of kaplan qbank with 74% correct on average and nbme form 4 and 3 with scores of 600 and 650 i am not being very 'greedy' that those scores are comforting me and i feel ready for this exam now but i heard from many that qbank is easier than the real one and it makes me very nervous about this real thing...because i felt qbank questions are quite deep and tough..and i usually have only about 2-7 minutes left after i finish a block.. about nbme, i felt easier than q bank with many short or direct questions.. initially i planned to spend the last 2 weeks cramming on first aid but after i heard that usmle world questions are tougher than kaplan qbank i'm thinking of finishing uw in 2 weeks instead of reading first aid... what do you guys think about it, and how tough is the real exam???

I have been doing FA & UW & I noticed that after reading FA before doing the UW q's you get a higher score. I don't know, but what I know is that UW can't be done in 2-3 weeks. That's what I feel. With your nbme scores though. .. if I have that.. i'll take my exam tomorrow. Do whatever works for you & again with your nbme scores, it looks like you were doing the right thing. GL!

i agree with anuba that FA increase ur score in UW i think u shouldn't skip FA , its better that doing UW since ur in shortage of time .. u'll get more n from FA that UW in 2 week , the only disadvatage is that UW is practice QUESTIONS but u did some of kaplan so i don't think u should worry about questions now ! i personally beleive that memory is more imp at this point !!! GL

Good question neopulsar. I am kind of wandering too, what the questions on the real exam will be. UW type or NBME type. UW is very chalenging and very time consuming Q bank. If the real questions are like UW, waw man, that will be quite crazy to do 350 UW type questions. I noticed that NBME questions are way different than UW and much easier. NBME is that type of almost straight forward questions where you know or don't know the answer. UW makes you think, and think, and think and suddently you can get the right asnwer. My UW weren't very impressive, around 60%. After that I did review first aid one time and notice that my scores are improving. So, it makes sense to do FA. Today I got usmlerx q bank and my scores so far are around 80%. The questions are not chalenging and are very similar to NBME. The good think is, that it is a question type review of FA and show you your missed points from the book. I don't really know what to tell you, but despite the fact that 2 weeks are not enough for UW, try to do 500 at least to get an idea of how they ask the questions. And whenever you have time, read FA. My question is: Can somebody compair the questions on the real exams to some of the popular q banks. Which one is closest to the real.

NBME is closest, ofcourse. Some are quite easy, some are vague. The remaining are unimaginable. I think if someone does well with the first two, he/she will surely pass with around 85-90, and some who can do the remaining, will get 99+. UW is well clinical vignette integrated, I love it. But in my test, around 30-40% has this kind of qs when they ask about patho, and they are much easier than UW. Kaplan Q bank is in the middle, just to remind facts that we need to know (in details, and sometime these Qs made me mad). I had to stop Kaplan Qbank after 10 blocks because of that. If you have time, Kaplan Q bank is good supplement to UW, cause UW requires analyzing capability, and Kap requires memorization. My 2 cents

thanks all of you for your time giving me helpful advice.... now i regret not starting uw earlier...i thought 2wk's going to be long enough i'd rather stick to first aid as you guys say..plus, doing 'some' questions from uw in spare time since i paid for it already gees.. i guess i'm wasting my parents' money too much on this..purchased kaplan Qreview (qbank + IV qbank, 6 mo) and i used it only for 9 days... well, anyway, thank you all
