in a patient with signs and symptoms of acute pancreatitis, how can u make out the etiological difference (clinical and biochemical) between biliary pancreatitis and alcoholic pancreatitis if no distinct suggestive history exists? for instance, in a pt with both moderate alcohol intake and a few chol stones on usg- what biochemical markers can be relied upon for the etio?

in alcoholic pancreatitis, we'll see elevated AST, ALT, with ASL/ALT ratio >2 in biliary pancreatitis, there's an elevated ALKP, w/ min/none ALT, AST elevation
