A 41-year-old man presents to the clinic complaining of low back pain. He describes that over the past few years he has had occasional episodes of pain that are not associated with any symptoms other than limited range of motion and limitations in his activities of daily living. He denies any leg pain, leg paresthesias, or weakness. The patient works as a manager at a local bank and is fairly active playing golf and tennis twice per week. He has no other medical problems but he is mildly obese. The patient is requesting relief from his pain and would like a prescription for something that will help him. After a thorough physical and neurologic examination excludes systemic or visceral disease, the most appropriate intervention at this time is to A. order a lumbar MRI B. prescribe oral narcotic analgesics C. recommend acetaminophen D. recommend strict bedrest and follow up with the patient in 2 weeks E. refer the patient to a chronic pain clinic

I think MRI would do it.....since pt is having pain for awhile (past few years)..... if because of acute traum or sprain, it would not last that long. please let us know what the answer is.
