Please, don't ignore this heartfelt question if you have taken the exam.
I have my exam in 2 wks and I am preparing with only FA and UW.I have managed to read medicine in kaplan and intend to look at Kaplan DVDs.
In my step 1,Behav science was my worst performance so sth tells me to try and read Psychiatry in kaplan as well.
Pls,do u guys think I should do this.I have a full time job so i can only read for 6 hrs a day which is why i am using only FA and UW.
Are the psychiatry qns too tough for FA and UW to handle?
PLZ reply!!!!!!!!!!!

i found the phych questions to be very long and difficult. honestly i read kaplan notes three times or so and still couldnt figure out what they wanted from me on the exam, because many questions were not even covered in kaplan. so i'm not even sure kaplan is worth reading... i hope i wont confuse you even more though

most of the times i just guessed an answer and after the test i thought i would have a poor performance in phychiatry, but apparently i did okay as my score report showed afterwards.

among the kaplan lectures notes i found internal medicine and surgery to be great for this exam, so i would strongly recommend that you read those two

best of luck for your exam and be confident and trust what youve learnt already.

Know what meds to use to treat the common Psych disease (Schizophrenia, OCD, bed-wetting etc) and know drug side-effects. The Psych drugs and S/E in First Aid for STEP 1 was actually quite brilliant.

Know your personality types i.e. the differences between Histrionic vs. Narcissitic etc.

Know how to calculate Number Needed to treat, Odds Ratio, Sensitivity, Specificity.

Know the difference between a Cohort, Case-control and Cross-sectional study.

Know the difference between Bulimia (i.e. normal BMI) vs Anorexia

You can knock out Psych quickly by studying the COMMON psychiatric illness and as well as the info about the aforementioned topics in Psych.
