Could someone clarify which studies you do for the different disorders?

USMLE World has me really confused at this point.

Something like...
GERD =
Achalasia =
Diffuse esophageal spasm =
etc.

Thanks in advance.

any pt w/ dysphagia will need a BS to give you an anatomic raod map. It is also done in case you are dealing with a diverticulum and will prevent possible rupture if you were to start w/ Endoscopy 1st
after that depending on the case description such as
> 45 y/o w/ alarming symtpoms (anemia, weight loss, dysphagia....) you do endoscopy with biopsy next as this will r/o any organic problems such as cancer.

In a typical Case of GERD for example yo may not need to do any test (Manometry is the Gold St) , but can go straight to Rx unless alrming Sx's are present

Manometry is the gold st test to differentiate between Motility disorder but as said before u will start of with BS 1st in all motility disorder than go from there in regrads to if indications for endoscopy exist
