1) A high dose treatment of osteosarcoma includes the use of methotrexate at starting dose of 12 g/m^2 as a 4-hour intravenous infusion. For a patient having a BSA of 1.7m^2 and weighing 162 lbs, calculate the dose on the basis of mg/kg/min. (Answer is 1.15 mg/kg/min)

I multiplied the 12g/m^2 and 1.72 m^2 and got 20.64 g. I don't know what to do from there.

2) Atrovent nasal spray contains 0.03% of ipratropium bromide in a 30 mL metered dose container. If the container is calibrated to deliver 345 sprays, calculate the volume of each spray, in microliters, and the medication content of each spray, in micrograms (Answer: 86.96 and 26.09 micrograms)

I don't know how to do this one! mad

seriously i dunno what is the formula but i was able to get the answer from the final units

to get the anser from g/m2 to mg/kg/min

u have to do the following[ dose(x 1000 to get mg/m2) X BMI(m2) ] devided by wt in kg (wt in bounds % 2.2) again devide by time in min

by doing this the final calculation will be in mg/kg/min !

calculation = [ 12 X 1000 X 1.7 = mg] devided by [162 % 2.2 = kg] again devide by [4 X 60 min]

= end result is 1.1543 mg/kg/min wink!

volume in each spray microliter = volume of container in microliter devided by no of sprays !

= [ 30 X 1000 to convert to micro ] % 345 = 86.9565

to calculate the dose in each spray in microgarm = dose in container % no of dose

dose = con X vol (the ONLY formula so far u have to retrieve from memory ) % 345

{ .03 g % 100 mL} X (30 ml) % 345 note that i assumed that the dose in in GRAMS since u forgot to mention it and to get the units right

= ( . 03 g X .3 ) % 345

= .000026087 g x 1000000 to convert to Mg

= 26.087 Mg

wink
