Think about possible causes of no intrinsic factor being produced. Recall that it is needed to absorb the B12. Hint: where is IF made?

You got it! It's atrophic gastritis Another cause would be gastrectomy. Another would be antibodies against the parietal cells.

in chronic pancreatitis the pancreatic enzymes will br affected. B12 binds to R protein and this R protein cobalamin complex which is broken down by pancreatic enzymes will be affected so B12 deficency

just a guess, m not sure.... In a abetalipoproteinemia there is low to absent apo B 100..... Vit E prevents oxidation of LDL... we know oxidation of LDL affects by damaging apo B 100 which cannot be now recognized by LDL receptors so as in abetalipoproteinemia there is low apo 100 so vitamin E prevents the rest of apo 100 from being oxidised...... i didnt even know that Vit E is used to TREAT ABETALIPOPROTEINEMIA...i just knew that it has some role in preventing atheroslserosis by preventing oxidation...

Abetalipoproteinemia seems to mess up aborption of all fat-soluble vits, bur moreso with vit E. As to the pathophysiology and therapy, I think you are on the right track. If anyone has anything to add, pls do so.

Another q: Male 23 y.o. w/recurrent pulmonary infections and finger clubbing shows extensive exocrine gland atrophy and fibrosis. Pancreatic ducts are lined with squamous epithelium with areas of keritinization, which is related to a deficiency of: a. riboflavin b. vit A c. vit D d. vit E e. vit K f. vit C

Yes, KeepGoing, it's vit A. Normal vit A levels regulate orderly differentiation of epithelia, including mucus-secreting columnar epithelium. Deficiency of vit A causes the cells to undergo squamous metaplasia.
