that is a really good question. the second question will be what are the chances that the same places will be with out a match?

There is a lot of misunderstanding that the programs that go unfilled are easier to get into, which is not true..

http://www.aamc.org/students/findaresident/ Go here It is the official website of the aamc that listes all residency and fellowship unfilled programs. You can sign in to get more info or even a spot!!!! And no that is not scramble....there are open spots throughout the year when for a reason one of the residents leave a current position (that was given through the match or the scramble). Hope this helps

Program criteria never lowers.Last year only 6000-7000 IMG were left unmatched ,still waiting to get 1 spot. Why would the program lower their criteria. It is even more competitive this year.

The problem is some programs that go unfilled is not because no one wants them but because their standard is too high. These are the programs who want a certain kind of people to be their residents, if they dont get matched, leave those positions unfilled rather than taking someone that do not meet thier criteria. I hope it helps.

sarika is exactly right..i was going thru the list of unfilled programs last year and saw that > 90% places were beacuse of programs not ranking residents or other way round ...no imgs in these places..

And the programs that do take IMGs and still go unfilled do so beacause, they already know who they are going to sign up during the scramble. Bitter truth!! This is true for fellowship scramble as well. This does not apply to all programs, but to some. Many go unfilled because they do not want IMGs with visa issues and sign up citizens or GC holders during scramble, but then the seats are too few to make everyone happy.

I have a list of unfilled positions from 2007 Match for the following areas: Pathology - Anatomic & Clinical; Pediatric; IM (P & C program); Family Medicine; Surgery General (P Program) I don't mind sharing that list. But I'll ask you to do a favor, to help one of my friends with his online survey about online communities. The link to the survey can be found on my signature below. Once you have filled out the survey, please pm me with your email address. I'll send that list as a pdf file (around 200kBytes) to your email.
