Hey folks!! Congrts to all those who scored all those lovely marks! I jus got my own Step 1 result and I failed - scored a 72. I am an IMG currently working in the UK. I hate giving excuses, but I failed due to factors beyond my control. Friends have told me that any IMG that fails Step 1 at first attempt has no chance of getting matched after passing subsequently. Pls could someone confirm or rebutt this for me? I need to know. I'm 32 now. If there is no chance of me getting matched, then I would have to forget about retaking it and make new plans for my career. Hoping to hear from all of you great guys and girls.

That's not true. Start reading / studying again. 72 is so close to passing.
Good luck.

a score of 72 in no way seals the door for you. what's happened has happened, for whatever reasons. you're right, the PDs will not pay much attention to the whys and hows of your preparation. but, it's now time to get up, dust yourself off, and get ready for round 2.

spend some time on this forum, and try and find out where you went wrong. if it was simple folly of not dedicating enough time for prep, the remedy is pretty straight forward, and obvious. if you can't figure it out, ask for more direct help.

wishing you luck.

I am in the same shoes with Chillax - IMG, 33yrs old, failed first attempt at Step 1. I scored 64 due to poor prep. I hope to do Internal Medicine. Any chance of getting matched if I retake Step 1 and score....say 85 - 90?

Anuba is right , stop listening to others , especially you are now actively currently practice in medical field in ... UK ...so that is the big big bonus chance to get into residency . Amarica loves UK clinical experinces .

Make this time high marks & then all steps high marks. But do not let fail any more , do not rush , 32 is still baby age , alot just start after 40 due to so many factors . Also start connecting, networking now , make sure read the right material , check at ppl journal with alot of posts , also ask Qs if not sure about books .

Most important without u saying how u prep, waht u use for prep, no one can give u closer advice .

72 is really really close , u can do better , to 90 & up , try right way with hrad work will pay off .

When beyound ur control if needed better postpond exm , better pass than fail, better score high than low, miss yr or yrs is just the number , important is pass & score well if possible .

But alot of abit older than ur age pass with 70 range , got match but with connection too .

Much much older than u also match with 90 & up marks , most are high 90, 99 cause of grad v. long ago they try to nail the match by score .

Unless u do not like to practice in USA , u better start analyse the fail , & study again .
