indirect bilirubin, the one elevated for prehepatic reasons

Your blood cells break then your hemoglobin breaks in hem and in globin.
hem is transform in biliverdin then its transform into indirect( unconjugated) billirubin.

So it comes from destruction of RBC and from absorption from the intestine.
