Dear friends,

Please advise me to find PGY2 position. I work like a slave and have no time even to wash my hair as an Intern in IM.
I need some tips how to start.
Appreciate any input.

I'm also looking to go to a different hospital as a PGY-2 and want to know how it works. I think I read in this forum that contract renewals are done by January and this is the time not to do the renewal (after you know you have something else!)
Let me know what you have found out.
Thanks.

Time management. It will get better.

Dear bbb,

I am an Internal Medicine PGY1 and I am planning to transfer to a different location.
When do we usually sign the contract renewals? I mean, when is the PD going to ask me whether I want to stay in the program or not? By January? (I started like most people, on July 1)

Thank you very much.

HI buddies

As an intern like you, I understand your situation. My case is the same. Having said that, I think we should try to manage our time like bbb said. Leaving is not always a good choice. Are you sure that you will be better in another prog?

My 2 cents

Good luck everyone.

Different programs will have a different time liine. My contracts are usually offered in February.

Also remember when you are applying for a PGY2 somewhere, many PDs will ask you for a letter of rec from your current program director prior to an interview. Be careful.

Thanks to bbb and catmd04.
catmd04: What you say is true, but sometimes we know that things will certainly improve. In that case, it's worth making the move. Also, one of the places I want to go, is a program where I already interviewed for PGY1 position and almost got there. They told me not to renew my contract before asking them about positions available next year. I'll play safe. Thanks for your advice.
