hmmm, I thought the formula for MAP was: 1/3S + 2/3D and this could be reduced to D + 1/3 PULSE P. :? Can someone clarify it?

Any formula that calculates MAP must give a value between systolic and diastolic but closer to diastolic than systolic. Mean Pressure = Diastolic + 1/3 Pulse Pressure OR =2/3 DIASTOLIC +1/3 SYSTOLIC Remember, Pulse Pressure = Systolic - Diastolic

No USMLE prep, I don't think that you get the same result from using any of the formulas. The initiator of this topic was saying that MAP=D + 1/3S whereas I read in the physio book that MAP=2/3D + 1/3S = D + 1/3 Pulse P. Now, to check if the first formula is the same as the other two, make D=3 and make S=9. When you do ur calculations, u'll come up with 6 as an answer for the first formula. But you end up with 5 if you try the traditional way or if you use the Pulse P. See my point? But I don't know whether this is significant or not!!!

Bela, the MC answers in the question are all wrong .. I think it may have been a typo... as was stated before MAP = D + 1/3PP = 2/3D + 1/3S USMLE prep was referring to these 2 formulas as being interchangeable since PP = ESP - EDP Hope that clears ur confusion.
