44 yo M has been abusing drugs for many years. Recently he started using MPTP. He says he has persistent tremor in his fingers and his body has become rigid. At times has had difficulty walking. CT scan and blod work are normal. You decided to treat him. 2 years later he tells you that his symptoms have improved. He also noticed relief from the recurrent URI he was prone to. the agent you gave him was?
a. Acyclovir
b. Amantadine
c. Benztropine
d. L dopa
e. Selegiline

drug induced parkinsonism. "Any young adult presenting with parkinsonism should be questioned about the use of street drugs, because mistakes in the illicit synthesis of certain narcotics can result in their contamination with MPTP (1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine), which may cause an irreversible parkinsonian syndrome." - ACP medicine. Amantadine enhances dopaminergic neurotransmission, via increase in synthesis, release or inhibition of reuptake of dopamine
