metaplasia is change of one kind of epithelium to other and this changed epithelum is usually the protective from the harmful factor

wow thanks for the beautiful explanation.... you are indeed correct, it is more protective. I was just thinking in the case of Barretts Esophagus which can cause it to be harmful. But you ae right... i think anaplasia is worst (hallmark for malignancy), then dysplasia, then metaplasia in terms of increasing to decreasing order of risk for malignancy.
