Which of the following is/are NOT true of SIADH: a. Measurable ADH b. Caused by ectopics or adenomas c. Correct hyponatremia fast to avoid Central pontine myelinosis d. treated with a tetracyclin e. treated with NSAIDs

As far as I remember correction of Hyponatraemia must be slow instead of fast in order to avoid central pontine lesion. So C is the answer>

Additionaly I would go for NSAID as well as a wrong answer because I could not think any cause to be treated with it. Tetracyclin could be useful since pnumonia can be a cause and AB is a Tx for that.

Incorrect choices are: b It's not caused by adenomas. It's caused be ectopics, intracranial masses and trauma. c Hyponatemia should be corrected slowly e NSAID makes SIADH worse by potentiating ADH effects. Correct choices are: a d Tx is demeclocycline which blocks ADH effects.

Bellkicker, why is a also a correct answer? I mean why isnt ADH measurable in SIADH, it is increased right? so we have measured it as increased....? Meg

Meg, ADH is normally unmeasurable. I don't know what kind of level it reaches in SIADH; all I know is that it becomes measurable.
