Propranolol: Yes, it does make what you type grammatically incorrect; and you don't sound as though you know what you're talking about at all. Do you know any doctors who write on charts like that? I sure don't.

I'd like to point out that I wrote this post to HELP people weed out bad advice. Thus, my intention is to HELP. If I wanted to just be arrogant, I wouldn't waste the keystrokes trying to help at all.

OOOOOO now I understand you want people to write professional English HERE. LOLgrin
You are hilarious men.
But I will give credit that you do not see MD writing in charts like that.wink

Jackofknives said this very well. Rustedfox is a critical thinker, sometimes we mistake between arrogance and self-confinde. For being a good physician, we should be self-confident (as Rustedfox ) and critical thinkers ( as Jackofknives says). It is better for us to know about our mistakes to be able to correct them, so it is better not to be offended by a colleague critics, it is better to learn something of it.nod

Rustedfox, I know I have lots of grammatical and spelling mistakes, English is not my first language, I try to correct it.wink

Goodluck for all.

Hedieh: Your written English is remarkable. In fact, it is better than a lot of native English-speakers that I know. Well done and good luck.

and if you have problems with people's writing style and grammatical mistakes then may you will have problems with your patients who come with atypical symptoms. maybe you want your patients to conform to your textbooks.

So my question is what is your opinion about this two points:
1- I do not know the conditions you had but if you had a fulltime job and a second job then congrats to you, but do not come here and say to a REAL person with a REAL situation that if they have low grades or have failed are not qualify to advise.

2- I will end with my good adviser IMG SURVIVOR post:

The usmle is one benchmark for competency but only one and not sufficient. Grades are pretty much meaningless in the basic sci years and don't comment at all on the quality of the education. (see: diploma mills). The usmle can be passed by someone who doesn't have a good education or clinical ability but who has taken a review course to focus on the exam, and it can be failed by an excellent, well trained doc who wasn't in a school preping him for the usmle. I dont think its in any way shape or form sufficient to say someone passed the usmle thus had a good education/training.

Lets stick to what this forum is all about; that would be help, support, and advice. It seems like RustedFox's reason for being here is not to help anybody out so lets just move on. It sucks that a thread like this can get 28 replies but when somebody like myself or many others posts something in regards to the USMLE exam itself, we only see a couple replies. I've made a few posts the last few days regarding Micro and Kaplan DVDs and it seems like nobody is willing to give their input or advice while we all including myself are willing to jump on posts like this and give our opinions. Lets consider that a shame since the intent of this forum is USMLE.

fox

u know ure just an attention seeker!! so da way i type is da way i write in my charts, if u actually think that u're sooooo ignorant....do u know how immature u sound...i doubt if u even got a 99 n' let me tell u how ignorant & immature u r...

i would pick the experience & advice frm a person who's failed then one who's got a 99...why? because what is experience? it's when u learn frm mistakes....that's actually what it is....n' i'll giv u solid proof....which answer explanations do u read when u find out u got a question wrong on a practice test? which answer sticks to your head more? an answer you got wrong or an answer you got right after reviewing your practice test? a person who's failed has more experience...i'll take that anyday...a person who's failed & then passed can show the biggest mistakes they made & prevent u frm creating them yourself....if fact a person who's failed & then passed can guarantee you what to do & what not to do...n' also...a person w/ a 99 can't guarantee me anything, coz they may not be an average joe...maybe he/she is a genius...what his or her preparation for the exam can be so little for what i need as an average joe

g'd luck to u...u need to grow up...u haven't experienced life yet...it shows that all u see is glitter not gold

Rusted Fox, congratulations on your great achievement!

I just wanted to say that we are no toddlers in here. We might be forum newbies, some of us might be silent readers, but we are physicians and adults who can make decisions for themselves! Trust me, if you seek for advice, it's hard NOT to get any; just like in real life situations. At the end of the day, it's always your responsibility to decide which suggestion you are going to accept and which you are going to disregard. I don't think everyone just blindly follows the suggestions other people make. They make a learned decision and it's their call to make.

I thank you for reminding the newcomers about it, but whose advice I'm going to take is my own personal decision. If I think I can relate to the situation of someone who works full time and is an old graduate I'll definitely look at his/her experience regardless of his/her number of attempts and try to customize my own game plan learning from his/her mistakes. On the other hand, if I am studying 24/7, I’m a first-time test taker and am very ambitious about my scores, I would just overlook what that person had to say.

I don't think we need someone to 'point out' or generalize good-advisers and bad-advisers in here.

Corollary to above, all proud 99-ers or whoever is done with the exam, generally move on with their studies and get busy with their next steps. If I expect them to be good Samaritans and to come back just to answer all our questions that would really be too much to ask for. And, in fact, that rarely happens in here. I am grateful to people who contribute their two cents but it's natural they would not frequently visit all the step 1 forums (possibly except the one for exam experience). Only people who are studying or at the end of their preparation who hunt for questions usually frequent all the forums and we end up relying on their advice. We do appreciate their efforts to help us though, because at the end of the day, it's absolutely our own decision to accept it or toss it aside. Physicians are smart enough to be their own saviors!!
