On the USMLE.ORG website ,there is an interative patient note that we can for practicing .

My question is :

Do we have the same space (lines number) in the actual computer-PN of the exam as in this interactive one ?

How many lines do we have.

I wish someone answers me guys ,cuz this is really awkward ,practicing without knowing if theres enough space or not.

i am frustrated ,cuz i was practicing a case ,and i have run out of lines in the interactive version .... so imagine how i would feel if the real one was even less!!!!!

Another question

when we are typing the History ,and the physical exam ,is it OKAY to type everthing on the same line ,i.e :

Patient is in sever pain. Vs: WNL. Chest: Nontender,Clear breath etc..
Heart: blabla bla.Neuro: Mental:blabla. motor:blabla. Cranial:bla..

Is it okay like this ?!!!

well, i haven't taken the exam yet, but on usmle website, they say that there will be a countdown for spaces on the screen. so i am not sure. i would think that it would be enough. especially if you abbreviate.

and i plan to type it as one line too... it maybe confusing since i wouldn't write that way, but it might be easier to type it that way.

i hope someone who has taken the exam already has some insight!

good luck!

Best of luck

I toke the Cs and passed.

I didn't type the PN but I wrote the PN....because I had the same concern about amount of space when typing.

While writing you can control the amount of space (e.g. writing smaller).

When I did the PN....writing...I didnt write everything on 1 line. I followed the First Aid Format.

thanks dr.roh , but i am a slow writer , i can type much much faster ..

someone told me that there isn't a number of spaces available but a status bar about the amount of space used. so i don't know. but my friend said he wrote everything and it fit. all the pertinent positives and negatives. everything and it worked. the PE section is smaller but you can fit everything in even if you do single space for each system

Thanks demsel , u are always kind , i hope everything is going good with you ...

But please can u ask for me if CTRL + C , CTRL+V ,CTRL+Z ( copy ,paste ,undo) works on the real exam when u type ur not ?

Thanks so much

i am not sure why you would cut and paste. that too much time. it is supposed to be a regular keyboard with a mouse. so i would just do the basic editing stuff. so backspace, and use the mouse. my friend said that he didn't use any typing shortcuts but then again he doesn't like to use them in the first place.

Man , i am almost depending on these shortcuts cuzi tend to forget a lot of things and add them later .. so without these shortcuts it would take me triple the time required ..

how can we know if they work ? its really annoying me .. please dont look down on me now !!! grin

i have no idea. but you type at 12 different stations for each case. so it is all about the memorization. don't worry. pick one... typing or writing... and practice a normal PN until you are have it down.

maybe someone who already typed his PN knows the answer ...thanks Demsel
