Exam experience: http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/57672 (titled "July 19, hard")

I stopped coming on this forum for a while. It seemed like my exam experience started a furry amongst some here, because i said the exam was hard. sad

Well the fact is the exam WAS hard.

I would be cheating you guys if i held back on my exam experience until now, only to report that the exam was easy AFTER i got my scores back! I see that on this forum all the time.. newbies we have never seen before and don't have an exam experience suddenly post a 99 and say the exam was easy.

I recall someone recently put a post that said "be weary of those that say the exam is hard". shaking head Well i say be weary of those that say the exam is "easy".

And be weary of exam experiences you read from people that post it AFTER they get their scores back. Because of course if they got a good score they'll say the exam was easy!

My exam experience was IMMEDIATELY AFTER my test, and so reflected my test as accurately and honestly as possible.

So the moral of the story: i guessed over 75% of the questions, didn't finish ANY block in time, had ridiculously hard and weird questions (i still can't get over the question about the color of the tick that causes lyme disease?), but still managed to get a 99?????? confused

The most likely explanation: studying hard and long for 6 months, using First Aid, Step-up, Blueprints, MKSAP, UWorld, QBook, or perhaps just plain old luck?

Don't underestimate this test and study hard! G'luck everyone. nodnodnod

Thanks young doc for your feedback. It was actually "manolok" that said negative things about your posting your experiences and me posting my experiences. When I posted mine back in December I posted it immediately after I took it just like you and soooo many people agreed with me but when I used my knowledge to provide some support to you because I had a similar exam as you, "manolok" ridiculed me and people like you saying that we were "pessimists, who were sour graping, and perhaps because they didn't master the material and that we were lamenting".

"Manolok" went on to ridicule me numerous times because I stuck up for myself and for others that he was insulting. I simply said that I was not lying and that I was being honest and that this was the real experience that I had and he was upset because I posted the truth when the truth wasn't something that made him "feel good just before the exam". I guess he wanted me to be dishonest.

"Manolok" also went on to insult me by calling me a liar and said that he knew I was a liar because he did some "sleuthing" as he called it of my prior 15 posts and that I wasn't who I said I was and that I had "multiple failures" in the exam and said that I wasn't studying for step 3 and that my experiences weren't valid because I "didn't pass the steps the first time in the 90's but because I had multiple attempts at a low score"

This was unbelievable from someone that didn't know me, and I actually got a high score on step 1 and passed it the first time and got a high score on Step 2 the second time...I failed one time and he kept saying that I had multiple failures at a low score as if he knew me. And he said he knew me because of reading my posts on here.

This was so weird. He then went on to tell me that because I have had "multiple failures" that I should "stop posting and open my step 2 books again" and then he kept insulting me over and over and over simply because I was honest just like you about my test experience. And when I said I had passed step 1 and step 2 and was now studying for the next step he called me a liar and said that I hadn't passed my exams cause he thought he knew me.

And finally I mentioned that I matched for residency last march, which I did, and he also said that I lied about that and not to believe anything that I had written. And he said that like you, young doc, I was trying to "justify my exam experience" by writing my experience on here. When what I was doing was showing support to someone like you young doc to let you know that there are people out there that had the same type of exam.

"Manolok" said that I when I posted my experience that I was being extremely negative and that I was trying to bring other people down just because I was giving my actual experience like you young doc. And after you emailed me young doc as well as others I told "manolok" that I have received messages from people that agreed with my experience and he told me that I was "lying" and kept saying that I was negative and lying and trying to bring people down.

"Manolok" said for others to be very weary of people posting extremely negative experiences when I wasn't negative but simply honest. And this guy went on and on and insulted me repeatedly when I never called him names or never called him a liar or never insulted his integrity like he did mine and never said that he needed to keep studying cause he had "multiple failures" and I never thought that I had the right to insult him and comment on how he was studying and think that I knew so much that I could give him free, insulting advice that said to open up your book and start studying again because since you have done so poor in the past and had "multiple failures" that you need to stop what you're doing and study.

Point is: there are going to be people out there like "manolok" who think that they know you and think that just because what you are saying isn't great news that you are being negative and are wanting to make people feel bad. When what you and I and many people have done is try our very best to help people out by sharing our experiences as accurately as possible. However the information comes across to others is how they perceive it, but if we are honest and accurate we are trying to help others. And in my case I was trying to show compassion and let you know that you aren't the only one that had the exact type of test that you did.

I know I went on a lot but I really wanted you to understand what happened with this manolok guy and why people said that and what my intentions were. I never insulted anyone but only questioned why he called me and others "pessimists, who were lamenting, and perhaps didn't master the UW material so are sour graping". I never called him names but only questioned whey he said that. And in return he insulted me repeatedly. I used these forums to ask some questions that my friends who had yet taken the exam wanted me to ask to get feedback and he assumed that it was always be and that because I had asked certain things that I was a "liar" and I had not matched at residency, and that I wasn't studying for the next step. And he said that I attacked him when I never insulted him ever, never called him one name while he again called me a liar repeatedly and said over and over that I had "multiple failures" and that I had "multiple attempts at a low score". All I ever did was ask why he insulted the people on here that have enough courage to share their exam experience immediately after the exam no matter how it went and I got nothing in return but insults.

Congratulations young doc for such a high score and for working so hard to achieve such a high score. And kudos to you my friend for not betraying the truth and being honest enough to say that you had to guess at 75% of the questions even when you got a 99%. And thanks for sharing your test experience immediately after the exam even if it is perceive as you being "negative" by others.

You deserve to party a whole lot. Enjoy your hard work!

oh boy, your experience post was the one that got me so afraid before the test...!

congrats on a great score. it was pretty nice of you to reveal the score, as it has indeed calmed down some of my nerves at least if not that of many others'. i too had a similar exam like yours, only thing was i felt i had only a lesser percentage of questions where i was guessing on the answer.

i only hope i get a score like yours too...! now i can relax a little and study for my Aug 22 CS..., at last..!

hey man why does this always happen. ppl who come out of the test saying it was damn hard get a good score. does it mean in a hard test you have to get less answers correct to get a good score. there must be some relative grading scale. a friend of mine recently gave the test and also said it was hard. so should i encourage him that the "grading" or whatever system they use will be easier for him

  #13

Congratulations!!!!!nod

young doc
congratulation for a perfect score i wish you good luck in your next step either cs or matching. my exam experiance was like yours but i am still waiting my score report.
daddy0: calm down my friend it seems you are focusing all your mind to defend your position against someone criticising you, my friend life is full of different opinions and experiances alot of people will agree with you and a lot will creticise you and once you explain your intintions once its enough you dont need to explain a lot as you are not guilty. just know that you will never satisfy all kinds of personalities every person is uniqe and you have to be honest with yourself first and dont be too much influenced by the criticism and think about what you are doing and keep focusing to acheive success in you projects ( residency ) i just want you to relax and enjoy what you did and keep progress. goodluck for all

  #16

young doc congrats.

i too took my exam on 19th july still waiting for my score.

i dont know how much i am gonna get.

Cirus, good luck on your test! 6 days left now? You'll do just fine! It seems like just yesterday replying to each other's posts in the IM forum!

Thanks Arlete, Gogeta, Veroni14, Ihab Shenouda, MrMaverick, Sprint 123!

DaddyO, it's funny you mention it, because i did party a whole lot after i got my score!!!

Hotobhaga, i'm sure you did very well!! I thought my Step 1 was easy after i took it, and i got a great score. So if you felt you had an easy test, than i'm sure you rocked it!

Doc-08, thanks a bunch buddy! Best of luck on everything for you as well!

Salo, Bhanusupria & Jayoc, i'm really sorry my post scared you guys (and many others as well!). As i previously mentioned, it wasn't my intentions! I was just trying to portray my exam experience as accurately as possible. But i'm glad you saw my score now so that you can breathe easy smiling face

Madras, i took the Step 2 on July 19th. It was reported on August 8th. And i received it on August 11. It will probably be updated this week.. Good luck!!!

Rezaaa, there is definitely something like that going on. Allow me to explain. After the Step 1, i thought it was easy, and in my performance profile everything was in the "high performance" section with Stars for nearly every subject. Yet i got 97. For the Step 2, i came out of the test thinking i failed, my performance profile shows everything close to "borderline performance", yet i got 99?????

Muzamill, you'll get your score anyday now! Goodluck to ya! I thought it was harder than Step 1 as well.. A LOT harder..

MyTime, thanks! We still wait for our CS scores together. I think this week it might be updated! G'luck!

This is actually very sad. I used this website religiously for the Step 1, and quite frequently for the Step 2. With those cleared, i won't coming on here as much anymore. It really is a sad sad

I wish i could name each and everyone of you who has helped me along the way and has blessed me with your knowledge and support, but there is just too many of you and i don't want to forget anyone! You are all fantastic, and i wish you all the very best. Thank you everyone, and goodluck with everything.

Congratulations young_doc! I was sure you were gonna kill it! My score has not been reported yet and that's why I am trying to stay away of USMLE stuff in these days. I just read your score today. I wish you all the best for your match!
