Okay guys, I got a question here since it was brought up in an earlier post and I have been wondering about this as well as I am doing my exam prep right now. Is it possible for somebody with really weak basic sciences to pass the exam with 6 months of preparation? Lets assume that the person is still in medical school and has just finished basic sciences and this person does not have a PhD or an extensive background in any science discipline. The reason I ask is that I see IMGs on here and other forums passing with 99 but then I come to find out that some of them have been practicing as doctors for 10 years, are surgeons, have PhDs, etc. You really can't compare somebody like that to a medical student that has only done his basic sciences which were not covered very well in medical school due to various factors which is not necessary to get into. Please, I think this is an important issue and I would like to hear opinions from fellow members here. Thanks.

Welcome ... welcome dude ! The same over here ... I had the same Q ... And i asked it to many people over here ... but too bad not many are in the same situation so i came to the conclusion that i just have to go ahead and see for my self ... hopefully ill then be capable of answering the same Q to others whom are in the same situation ... As you can see im praying and dreaming for i high score ... but what ever happens i still prefer to save almost one year of my life after graduation. So just wait, and hopefully (God willing) youll know if a normal young guy with less than the minimum required med. education can do good on the boards.

I also have the same question and do hope , like both of you, that one day I will find the answer . Most of the people who share their experience of getting a 99 , already have strong basics but I recently read experience of someone with the user name "Mystic Soul" , who did not do good in his med.college but got a 99 on step one. He studied for one and a half year and I assume he studied full time.

Hi guys, I haven't written the exam yet and, in fact, just started but from what I had read it looks very straight forward so, IT IS POSSIBLE for a med student to master this exam. I am the complete opposite (MD, future PhD) but I think you just need to put A LOT of effort in studying as much is possible, the information is there and practice questions questions questions. IF six months is enough that depends on you. Good luck!
