how is salivary amylase protected from stomach secretions? does it stay inside of chyme to protect itself?

does it need to be? thought that it works on sugar breakdown in the mouth. Are you talking about pancreatic amylase?

Salivary amylase is "protected" in the stomach at the beginning but eventually its going to get mixed up with the rest of the stomach's contents. The cause of the protection is the unique movements and contractions of the stomach that tend to keep the food at the "head" of the stomach unmixed. So if you have some ice cream after dinner, saliva can keep on acting on the sugars for a little while. Bon appetite
