What role does estrogen play as being a risk factor for IHD?

We know that MEN have a greater risk than premenopausal women (ESTROGEN PROTECTION); but in postmenopausal age men and women have the same risk. ...

However women on Oral contraceptives actually develop Hypertension, which is a risk factor for IHD...
And estrogen containing OCPs are also a risk for developing DVT, which can also lead to MI, etc...

SO my question is: What is the role of estrogen on IHD??? Protective or NOT?

Thanks.

Concerning ischemic heart disease, in normal concentrations, estrogen is protective as a result of its dilatory effect on the coronaries..

Estrogen also causes peripheral bl vs to dilate so it causes some sort of stasis in LL bl vs (esp external estrogen as u can never keep it at the standard level the body does) so it may cause clotting especially in high risk pts
