It was like an adventure. The exam is doable, just need to be confident and stay focused and speak with empathy at all times and be polite. Do basics like greeting , addressing name , introduce self ,dont forget draping. I draped my first pt after the general exam ,was terrified when I realised becoz I never thought i could make this blunder inspite of practicing well. It happens due to stress of the history taking .The exam was tiring with headaches and backaches at the end of it.
My suggestion after the experience is first sleep well atleast 7 hrs and do the same for one week prior. First be thorough with ur DDs and work up for atleast the common cases . Then learn ur history taking skills with most stress on HPI followed by questions to r/o the DDs. and in all esp vague cases ,follow it up with this ,ask 2 questions from atleast each system to localize the system(ROS), this helped me a lot .Finally end ur history taking with a general question ---is there anything more u would like to tell me regards ur problems, this really helped me....
Regards the physicals , i was rapid and did just only the relevant systems ,which was max 3 systems . U just dont have time to do all systems and it is also irrelevant. Make sure that ur done with 3/4 of physicals when the 5 mins announcement is made . Wind it soon with one more system if relevant and give the rest of completion for concluding as it SPs keep their questions towards the end or ....after history taking too.
my exam was okay, doable and managed time well . Patient notes should not be a problem if u have ur DD s and Work ups memorized and write them first. Then go ahead with history and physicals documentation later ....this is what worked for me well.

Paasu, the relevant things in a system examination will depend on the case and the DDs u thinkk of then. Hope u got it.
I did general first with PICKLE ,avoiding C and E. Then did the the main system based HPI, then followed it with the relevant 2 other connected systems based on DDs or other symptoms.

Guys, a few days back i gave my exams,slowly mistakes are dawning on me. Not able to concentrate on step 2 or even fall sleep. Even my recent 97 score of step 1 is not a source of happiness anymore.I have given a summary of my CS experience before.
Though i have not received my CS results, still want to tell these points are to be taken care of .... to make sure that u are relaxed after CS and able to concentrate for the next- which I'm not able to.
knock,greet ,smile , sp's name, introduce self and role....may appear very obvious but can so easily mess them up under stress of the exam, so be very careful. dont take it for granted.
Sympathy and politeness throughout- most imp
Drape and wash hands before physicals
perform only relevant physicals and learn them by heart based on HPI.
Remember conclusion has 2 parts, one is ur perception of ur diagnosis...verbalise it , second is counselling for anything as simple dm or htn.
counsel every relevant smoker, alcoholic, DM , HTN , tobacco chewer, illicit drug user.
Ask every individual about sexual history esp past h/o std even in current sexually inactive SP as HIV may unfold in a vague case of sore throat /cough/weight loss.
End every encounter with a question so as to address any concerns they may have?
MENTIONING DDs in descending order of priority ,very very imp...
Memorise DDS with WORK UPS well. No time to formulate then during the exam
I personally feel in the hype of the exam, one may forget the above which I FEEL are the most imp points of the exam . Hope I could help somebody .

Well , thank you a lot my friend , and dont worry , i have heard from people here who did their exams that perfection is not needed at all ... the SP have a checklist ,okay ? so if u scored 65% and above u will pass ( 65% that includes knocking ,comforting ,washing,draping, asking for concerns ... so its okay if u missed few medical points ... even if they were crucial to diagnosis ... cuz as a student ( i think ) u are not supposed to ask abt everything nor know right dd .. if u did , u would open ur own clinic now ... no , the goal of exam is to see if u can get oriented towards the system and ask some questions abt it along with a decent review of other systems ,and a readable PN ( So that when ur attending reads it ,he understands)
PE in this exam is not supposed ( nor intended ) to be accurate , u should (act) as if u are illiciting knee reflexes , or act as if u are palpating or examining CVA ... its not crucial at all to hit the right point when u try CVA for example , just hit in the area ,and i think the nice SP would give u a yes on his list.
So even if u blanked out , i am sure u have asked abt family ,sexual ,PMH ,PSH ,Allergies and these essentail questions ,and combine these with communication skills things ,u would get a good number of YESes on the list.
I am trying to comfort u in the same way that i am comfortin myself ,though i didnt take the exam yet ... and i am really anxious cuz i am changing the place where i live ,and i am not practicing with anyone at all ....
If the cases on the exam ( i mean the CC ) arent from FA or UW , i know that i am doomed , cuz i know myself , i cant improvize , i would stand infront of the SP like a catatonic patient ...

You will do well and are in the right track..... About practising with a partner, try in front of a mirror , it adds more confidence ......with a imaginary person as SP....it worked well for me.

Man, it sounds like you are experiencing the postpartum psychosis...
Relax, you delivered a nice, healthy baby (you will see it in 2.5 mo though)...
Whether you believe it or not, I am driving through the same, i.e. just having flashbacks of the exam... Well, I know that I have made several mistakes, but how I can help myself now, when everything is back??? You just imagine that you were given only 15 min, and the only task you had was you demonstrate your integrity as a doctor... Do not split your job apart, but put everything together, walk a few steps back and look at that pile of your characteristics... Are you happy with it? I want to hear that you are...
Nobody can make it perfect within those 15 min... When I was getting out of the SP room before the final alert, I saw almost all AMGs already typing their PN... Do you think they made it perfect for the less time that you personally know wasn't enough??? Come on, man, relax and enjoy your life... Trust your first (the most first, the most most (endless first)) impression when you left the center? Were you happy??? I personally was because I knew that I did at least at the average level... But I saw a guy at the center who was really upset even during the first 30' lunch time... Again, just relax and do not give yourself a second check...

well...i did a lot of cuttings in the dd and labs part...did not write them in order for most of them....and tomorrow is the result.....
i cant study for my step 2 as some one just wrote in a post that he/she failed due to ICE only with even scores 90 and 92 in steps......i am scared

does anyone know when does ecfmg update the site...bcz its always showing yesterdays date..so on 15th it will still show 14th Aug.....so that means the result will be on 16th...

oasis shows no score report yet......also plz tell me tell me what does this mean that ecfmg has Changed from Paper to Electronic Score Reports????
i thought that meant that from August onwards Oasis will not only show score report date but also show the details of result.....
i will be online at midnight.....good luck to all of us

Please be online and hopeful... I am sure you're gonna be all right and see a CS-passed (not passed away) man in your bathroom mirror tomorrow morning.
As for paperless reports: I think this is about those who took the exam starting from August but you took it in May-June, right... So, the OASIS trick may still work for you...
