Dear friends I started going through freida and many programs want a score of 85 plus on step1 which i don't have . i have only 80 on stp 1 and 99 on stp2ck and 92 on stp 3 done with cs. Should i apply or not to those programs where I do not meet their step 1 cut-off? are they strict about it? also, what is the number of programs I should probably apply to get matched in IM? i am in confusion .plz bbb or anyone with a good piece of advice ......... Thanks.

I would apply...programs are not 100% followers of their cut-offs in cases such as yourself. For instance, your 99 has a lot of weight and I would consider you higher then someone with two 85's and I'm sure programs do that too. You never know which programs will bend their rules a little bit if they see something that they like so go ahead and do try. Specially if your step 1 score is not that low. GL and remember that your limits are only the ones that you impose to yourself.

My first rejection from univ of tenessee. I just hope my step1 score does not ruin my chances like this. Hope I'll get into a decent program atleast, if not great ones.my step 1/2/3 scores are 80/99/92. i now don't need a visa, as I'll have EAD in oct . So, just one mistake haunts you forever. anyways, those who didn't apply yet, plz observe that uni of tenessee is strict abt its criteria. And those who are preparing for exAMS, TAKE EACH STEP WITH ALL PREP & in a good time with no distractions. "Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Please be advised that your application does not meet the minimum requirements for our residency program and will not be considered for an interview. Application requirements are posted on our website at: http://www.utmem.edu/Internal/applicant/img.html Sincerely, Karey Conlee, Coordinator Internal Medicine"

I am sorry to hear that my dear friend...their lost!! But that is just an example of rigid criteria there are also a lot of programs that are not as rigid so keep the faith!!
