Samisaf please,

Did you listen to Dr. Goljan's audios?

Did you watch any of Kaplan's DVDs?

Yes, I listened to some of Goljan's audios, he is really very good. If you like the audiovisual learning, I think they are excellent although somehow old.
No, I didn't watch Kaplan DVDs, I didn't have much time, and they are time consuming.

Congrats samisaf for your score...But dude u r a genius..just 6 hrs study a day.....look at ur NBME and UW score and even q book...i m doing course 2nd time still i hardly get 60% questions right in my qbook.......the way u studied wont work for average students like me...but still thanks for some of the things u told in your post abt prepration...

I don't know much about Kaplan for behavioral sciences, but I think it is equally good.
If you've already read it, then I advice you to stick to it. You can also skim HY, especially the mini cases that are scattered in the book.
You can do the path slides after every chapter you read, that way, you will consolidate the information you've just read.

Thanks for your compliments.

samisaf, please, i think you didnt study behavioral science at school, right? So your great score in it is just from reading HY? (+ you only read biostatistics one time). If it is true that you only used that book, that means you use books in a much more efficient way than others do. How do you use them?

I took the following subjects while at medical school:
- Medical Biostatistics
- Medical Ethics
- Psychiatry
I did HY + questions in qbook + questions in UW.
Again, as I said previously, I think being at a higher level when I took the test helped me a lot in preparing, and in achieving a high score.

I didn't scare you, I don't know much about kaplan DVDs, I didn't have much time to listen to them. If you have time, then try them, I think all the kaplan titles are very good.
Goljan is very good too, I don't know if you have his new lectures, the ones that I happened to have seemed to be a little old, that's it.
Again, my advice to any book, cd,... try it first if it works for you, then read it, if it doesn't then don't no matter how highly it is rated.

But great scores, u must be like those others in my medschool...... the reading kind! rolling eyesThat btw is a compliment, before u jump the gun!!!!!!!! nod

But like JOK said everyone has his/her own way of getting there..........sometimes we make mistakes but then we got to learn and exp. like urs just shows us the various possibilities! But that stuff I realize I'm not made off.......my most foundation is by reading everything all over again on my own, same books latest editions! Was too busy having fun then!sticking out tongue grinGreat Job SAMI!

agree with JOK. if someone is looking for a 'magic formula' there ain't one. in my class the topper was (is) the most studious one. she never talked to anyone, just came to class and left when over, never participated in any extracurricular activities, but she was always the topper. (no complaint). we (me and my close friends) used to envy her, but never wanted to be her exactly. we have our own lifestyle. we wanted to enjoy life and med school equally. we roamed around in the city on our bikes, we watched a lot of movies, crammed non-stop in the last two weeks before exams, forgot everything as soon as the exams were over. if that topper declares on this forum that she got a 99 and an incredible 3-digit score, i, for all, would never be surprised. hey, THATS EXPECTED. i wouldn't assume she had a magic formula which she applied on the very same books that i used and i might get the same score if i apply that magic formula in the last 6 months of my prep. the magic formula is DISCIPLINE and DILIGENCE, which won't work so effectively in the last minute as it would in the long-term.

the above description is only one degree of many qualities that people have. another quality we can think about is intelligence. that needs no discussion, i guess. so i feel, one should not get into a state of helplessness and crave for suggestions/formulas from toppers, because you KNOW what it is that toppers do differently, just that you have to realize it. i do not mean not to ask for advice, but setting a limit to your expectations will help you ultimately.
