i am a graduate frm india . have done psych in UK for last 3 yrs. want to apply for IM in 2008.
what explanation do i have of doing psych for such a long time when im committed to doing medicine.
cannot come up with any explanation.
can u guys suggest an answer??

well, what is your explanation? why do you want to switch? just write down what fascinated you more about IM than Psych...

real reason?never wanted to do psych in first place...
does it harm the application if u switch subjects??

Best thing is to gain some experience preferably U.S clinical expereince in internal medicine and add it to your resume.So it shows some back ground in Internal medicine and that will help.

You can always say, you need more IM clinical experience and IM is a broader specialty with lots of options after residency.You don't tell that u want to SWITCH, just tell them you WANT TO DO IM.
I have gone thru same situation last yr as I had obgyn experience from UK, now I am doing med.

Was there an interesting case during your psych experience that you needed a Med consult on?Depression that turned out to be hypothyroidism or such stuff- write about it in your PS and tell them that you realised your calling was IM- also be prepared to field Qs about it in your interview
