Dear BBB, or anybody else with experience on this, i have a really good LOR from a family physician, i also want use it for IM application; does the IM program take this as insult, since the LOR claimed that i am interested in FM and will become a good FP? OR, the PD pay more attention to the evaluation on my academic performance and not care for which specialty this LOR is? i guess a lot of friends here might meet same problem as i have, so, what's your brilliant suggestion? thanx a lot

Yes, the letter can be used.

thank you, BBB. so, my understanding is PDs pay more attention to the evaluation in the letter and they can understand everybody has to diversify the application to secure one position? Thanx a lot, again.

I think the only downside to the letter is that ist says you are interested in family medicine this is not good at all when applying to internal medicine

If questioned about the letter, didn't you originally think about FP, but have changed your mind into Internal Medicine? No matter what I say, there is going to be an opposing opinion - so just use your personal judgement. Good luck.

thank you very much. I do appreciate it, BBB and other friends. If questions, I probably will say: being primary care physician is my career goal, but, bow I find doing IM residency allows me broader career path, such as doing fellowship after residency, though I am still keeping my original goal for devoting myself to primary care. What do you think?

fellowship and primary care are opposing career paths. Very few Pulmonologists see patients as their primarcy care physicians, nicht wahr?
