Lorazepam can be safely used as a preanesthetic medication in a pt undergoing liver transplantation without fear of excessive CNS depression because the drug is

a) excreted in unchanged form

b)actively secreted into the GI tract

d)a selectively anxiolytic devoid of CNS depressant actions

e)reversible by naloxone

its c,b/c it is not metabolised in liver so DOC in alcholics,liver transplant or any other liver pathology!!

yes KG rtnod..in the explanation given..lorazepam undergoes extrahepatic conjugation n is safer in terms of possibility of excessive CNS depression...is there any concept about how extrahepatic metabolism causes less CNS depressionconfused

it does not have active metabolites as other benzo's and is less lipophilic so doesnt get into cns like others.
